My 11 yr old has this passion for blowing out the candles on other people's birthday cakes. Having been deprived of the fun for 10 yrs...she now likes to get up close to the birthday child (or adult) and she likes to blow with all her might...I smile at her innocence.

When she turned 11 she had her first birthday..the cake..candles.. friends..presents..all the trimmings. Once a year isn't enough for her however...and she is now making up for lost time.

Two nights ago we went to our friend's birthday party for their 5 yr old. Stevie (my daughter) got right up close to the birthday boy at cake time...we're all thinking 'awww how cute'...as she is very fond of the little fella. Lights went out...candles were a blazing...we all sang Happy Birthday and click went the camera. A kodak moment as my daughter blew out the candles LOL. This was the second birthday she did this...the first one we have on video Gotta love em.

For those of you with kids...what are they enjoying the most with their new found freedom?? Sports, socialising with school friends, sleeping in etc??

I refuse to have birthday candles on a cake anymore, beck. There would be so many, they might set the house on fire!

If God's Spirit is filling a Kingdom Hall, how is it that Satan can manuever the ones within that Kingdom Hall at the same time?

Stop going on Dakota...from your pic I'd have to say you could fit 23 candles on even a small sized cake

Hey Beck!! I have had the same experience with my 9 yrold daughter.
The cake, the lights off, the candles glowing on her face. It was her first b/d party and I wanted her to remember it always . She was surrounded by friends and family and she was soo happy. That day will always be in my heart , for a moment in time , I will remember her sweet little face and she will always be 9 yrs old and glowing. I let her be a princess for the day, even her cake had disney princesses on it. I think I might have been enjoying it as much as she did. Maybe I was seeing what I missed as a child. She told me that is she could she would go back in time and give me a party and and a cake. How precious is that!!! So much for the JW explanation of b/d celebrations being self promoting. It was a wonderful day. Today my baby , he is 7 yrs old was wondering how long until his first b/d party . I told him in about 5 months and he was quite for a min,,,
then asked if he could have a party like his sister had. Even talked about the cake he wanted and that he wants scoobie doo hats and plates. I had to choak back tears as I saw his face wondering if he could be as lucky as his sister and have a special day. I cant wait until sept. My daughter's was the first b/d we decided to celebrate,
but there will be many more for all in our family. Life is too short to miss these miles stones. Thanks Beck for sharing your story.
I will post some pics of her party when I get my scanner fixed. love ya , D

Careful, Beck. Flattery will get you everywhere. As I told my daughters, when I hit thirty, I started going backwards. So, let's see, that makes me about 7, going on 6 now.

Your kids are just too precious.

Something as simple as a birthday cake can mean so much...I too never had a birthday cake as a kid...maybe thats why we notice things so much more intensly. My 11 yr old's birthday was the first one we all celebrated as a family. The kids were a little bit nervous...they didn't know how to respond...shoud they be excited? Or should they be indifferent? I have some precious video footage...and photos too, I will try and hunt some out to share.

Please email me a postal address so I can send your son a card and something nice for his 8th birthday. September is only around the corner...but it will be like eternity for him. What a nice surprise it will be to get something from Australia I can't wait to do that for him and hear all about it. That's the marvelous thing about this forum (thank you Simon) is that it brings people like us closer together.

That's totally cute. I was fortunate to have gotten out a year before my oldest (now 12) was born. I can honestly say though I never had a birthday cake until I was 29 years old when my current wife got me one..LOL Course it would have been a cool thing as a kid, but I am happy my kids don't have to go through that strangeness as I did.

Hey Beck, was the little boy upset that Stevie blew out all his candles?

My kids are enjoying being friends with the kids in their classes, going to their houses and having them over to our house. They like the fact that they are now able to salute the flag at school like all the other kids and that they are not constantly being taunted because they could do the same things that their peers could do.
