“Apostate” Presentations

The Watchtower often gives JWs examples of presentations to householders. Something like, “Many people believe in miracles. Others are skeptical. Do you think miracles really happen? [Allow for response.] This promise of a future miracle has given many people hope. [Read one of the scriptures shown on pages 9-10.] This magazine answers three common objections about miracles.”

What if us “apostates” had short presentations for JWs? No more 30 to 60 seconds? Obviously, in real life a JW would immediately scream and run about one sentence in, but then, how realistic are the presentations the Watchtower presents? But I thought it an interesting exercise to compose a presentation that encapsulates what we are truly about. IF we could give such a presentation to make them think, what would we say?

    Here is my presentation:

Hello. I am a neighbor who is deeply concerned for you and your household. Some Christians say Jesus is their mediator. Others say he is not. What do you think? [allow for response]. I would like to share a scripture that has given many people food for thought. Read 1 Timothy 2:5, 6. Do you know the Watchtower says that Jesus is not your mediator? This magazine [a Watchtower] explains the Watchtower’s position on the matter, I would like to leave it with you. But when you are done, read that scripture again, and if something does not add up, I welcome you to start your own research on the matter.

Okay…I just winged that. I’d love to see what you come up with.

Hi Londo111, I feel that a less than 30-second elevator presentation said from the heart may work on non-JWs, but would not work very well on "Spiritually Strong" (non-thinking) JWs.

My 30-second elevator presentation might go something like:

I'm a christian who believes in following examples set by Jesus Christ of unconditional love, truth and honesty, charity, and critical thinking for myself, and do not tolerate victimizing other people, lying, deceit, conditional love, nor blindly following organizations that proclaim they are religious and know the absolute "Truth". I found out from personal experience that the WTBTS teaches JWs to lie, be hypocritics, love conditionally, and victimize other JWs. Do you want to know anything else about the WTBTS?

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

    Robert

That's great! The 30 sec. presentation that I thought of would start out about John 17:16. I would ask: Should someone teach their own opinion? Then I would show them John 17:16...........He that speaks of his own originality is seeking his own glory ; but he that seeks the glory of him that sent him, this one is true, and there is no unrighteousness in him. " . Do you think the WTBTS teaches their own opinion? How about the generation thing? or 1975? At this point pull out the old Make Sure book (ouch!) and review some of the crazy teachings. As a real hoot show them what a creative day is (ouch!) After all the wierd beliefs ask the witness; Who's opinion were these teachings? Did it come from Jehovah? Then what authority did they have for teaching the things in the Make Sure book? "Because they were anointed? Who told you they were anointed? They did? Who told you they were gods "governing body"? They did?

Per a suggestion by Steven Hassan to a cult member in general:

Greetings. I’ve been discussing this serious topic with my fellow neighbor and would like to get your feedback. It has been reported that Scientology installs web blockers on their member’s computers that will filter out anything negative in regard Scientology. Why do you think Scientology does this? Do you think it is wrong for a Scientologist to research the history of their organization, even if it is negative? [allow for a response] I would like to share a scriptural warning that is pertinent to this discussion. 1 John 4:1. Here is an article I would like to leave you on the spiritually abuses that is prevalent in Scientology.

Here is one about the UN NGO scandal:

Hi there. Some religious organizations have become NGOs of the United Nations, which obligates them to subscribe to the tenants of the UN charter and promulgate information about the UN. Being that you are one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, who believes the United Nations is the image of the wild beast, the disgusting thing that causes desolation, and that all other religions are riding it for thier own purposes, and even go so far as to disfellowship those who enjoy the health benefits that joining the YMCA may offer, what do you think of organizations who become NGOs of the United Nations? [allow for response] Read Proverbs 20:10. I would like to leave you with several Awake articles on the United Nations, with it’s companion, an official UN response in regard the Watchtower being an NGO of the United Nations for over 10 years.
