Why Watchtower Baptism Is An Ineffective Rite Of Passage

A bunch of half naked young people wait in line, holding towels. Their demeanor is commonly that of kids in High School waiting in a cafeteria line. One by one, they get dunked under water and are thereafter responsible for total sexual fidelity - and a long list of other rules - even though none of them is of the legal age of consent for sexual intercourse - and some of them may not have even hit puberty yet.

Are you f**king kidding me? Really? And supposedly sane and mature adults think this is a rational, effective ritual?

    It's pathetic.

I call Watchtower baptism a rite of passage because it certainly isn't an adult dedication or decision - especially given the recent encouragement for young kids to get baptized. You don't need mature, adult judgement to do it.

Let's contrast this with a Bar Mitzvah. You get celebrated as part of an extended family and an old religious culture. You may get some 'gelt' to help you on your way to becoming a doctor or lawyer. It's practical.

In WitlessLand, you might not even have real extended family to be interested in you. They may have chased them all away by 'preaching' to them or just forgotten them by Not Observing Any 'Worldly' Holidays.

(at this point, fade in the music from Harry Chapin's "Cats in the Cradle" and think about how it applies to Witnesses and their Pagan Holiday attitude).

There are also Mormons who have great personal pride in their 2 year 'mission'. It's how Mitt Romney learned French.

Since Watchtower Baptism is mostly for Witness kids and Not A Matter Of Real Adult Judgement, they need to acknowledge it and do something with it

-or just continue to pretend that All Is Well In WatchtowerLand..........

Why are Witnesses shocked when Witness kids get dunked one month and sent to a Judicial Committee the next? (Duh)

Jesus said that baptism is key to being saved.

He did not say that baptism into a religion was necessary, just in the name of the father, son, holy spirit.

Therefore ANY baptism using the method laid down by Jesus is enough to meet the requirement Jesus spoke of.

Next time you attend an assembly or convention, look at the ages of those being baptised as Metatron says, this will tell you where the Soc is focussing its efforts today.

Are there examples of anyone in the bible getting baptized before they were a mature human?

There was Samuel but that was a rare example of a young boy becoming an apprentice priest.

Baptism was always in conjuction with a person's being annointed.

What role does an annointed 10 year old have.

Suppose a 10 year old is baptized and is martyred. That presents a strange case. Does he suddenly miss out

on the normal human maturation process.

All things are possible when you are talking mythology and you make up the story.

    Children should NOT be baptized.

I know. I was 10. I'm now pushing 70. I don't even remember the date of my baptism. I just know it was in May sometime.

This is a perfect case for the Watchtower to apply one of their favorite heuristics.-- "Since there is NO incident where something occurred in the Bible therefore it must be wrong."

There is NO example where a Christian or faithful Hebrew celebrated their birthday...therefore its wrong.

There is NO specific case in the Bible where people were killed on a cross... therefore it never happened.

There is NO case where a young child was baptized there fore it must be wrong.
