I want to celebrate it this year for the first time with my two daughters. They are 4 and 2 years old.

I am afraid to tell my husband though. I also don't think it's fair that I feel the need to hide it.

I'm pretty open about how I feel on most things, but I know he feels strongly about demons being involved in the holiday.

What do you think is the best way of handling this?

Maybe just give out the candy & stuff this year & let the kids help.

That is not too awful ....giving apples away?

You can give out candy and set up some decoration with an autumn theme, and avoid the outright association with Halloween, witches, ghosts, etc. Since your husband is superstitious, this will give him a gentle acclimation to the holiday, and in future years you can demonstrate that nothing bad happened and each year roll in a little more decoration until in 5 years you are doing the full on experience.

They are still young so won't see the difference between a little celebration and a full blown one, so do a little at a time. I think you'll find whatever way you do it they'll remember it as a bit of fun, after all that's all it is.
