Bethel... Really the 'House of God'?

Just wondering why they would call the headquartes 'Bethel', supposedly the 'House of God'.

What is 'Bethel' really? The bible tells us that it was the centre of false worship started by Jereboam and the Golden Calf worship. (1 Kings 12:28-33)

Also Amos prophesied against it, saying: "Search for me, and keep living. And do not search for Bethel....as regards Bethel, it will become something uncanny." (Amos 5:4,5)

Interesting that once again Bethel has become the centre of 'calf' worship. We don't need Jesus Christ anymore, as the Israelites didn't need the temple at Jerusalem. All we need is the 'Organisation' for our salvation.

It's funny you should mention that. I was thinking along the exact same lines about a week ago.

Amos 5 is a big eye-opener. Not only those verses, but verse 18, too. "Woe to those who yearn for the day of Jehovah!" (RNWT) "Woe to those who are craving the day of Jehovah!" (NWT)

LOL, that is a great find! The NWT index mentions only Genesis 28:19, Genesis 31:13 & Judges4:5. But this is the problem with the Bible- it covers such a long period of time where so much happened, and is a collection of myths from all parts of the Middle East, so there contradictory verses for just about everything. Or it could be that this religion is one huge practical joke...

    Good find, Tornapart!

    They say history repeats itself.

    It does, indeed.

And regardless of what "Bethel" they name themselves after... that place is not the House of God. As particular as they are about not calling the Kingdom Hall a church... they shouldn't even try to touch upon calling their own place the 'house of God'. Of course, it is no different than calling the GB the mouthpiece of God. (Word of God)

They keep showing people what they are... seating themselves not only in the seat of Moses but also the seat of Christ... people just need to WAKE UP! to see who it is they are truly serving, what it is they are truly IN... and hear as Christ says, "Come out of her, my people!"

Come to Him instead. Not the false christ and false prophet. But to Christ, and to Life.

May those with ears hear as the Spirit and the Bride say, "Come!... and may anyone who wishes and anyone who thirsts "Come... take the free gift of the water of life."

    Peace!
