Do we need to alert newbies to the search engine on topics , so we dont needlesly rehash topics already covered in depth.?

I must admit I was slow to wake up to the search button to find out about a subject which may have been thrashed to death years ago.Only to try to revitalise it in my ignorance. This is not a fault with newbies .Bear with me .I am not computer literate .But is it possible or even plausible that newbies are given a basic instruction on how to find information using the search function ? Surely it could save a lot of needless repetition.just saying.

You may need to hire full time programmers that

are "wired in" to develop this site. Too bad the urban legend

of the Evil Slave is a myth or we could ask him to donate millions.

No... they shouldn't because some topics are already "old light"

Sometimes it is good to rehash some topics in case any of us miss something here.

    Absolutely not.

The purpose of a discussion forum is to discuss. It doesn't matter how many times a topic has been hashed and rehashed, it deserves to be hashed again for the help and healing benefits it provides new participants.

Aside from dissecting the current literature, which in itself is rehashed WT drivel, practically every topic imaginable has been done to death on this forum and will continue to be done for each new generation of awakening JWs.

I'm kind of still a newb but my feeling is that a new topic gets fresh input. Usually old topics are linked to in it. But the new topic attracts good attention and gets fresh perspective. When I see someone bump a topic from a few years ago I actually get bummed. It means I may have to read pages of info that doesn't apply well now just to see the new posts and what they are about.

Now having said that, the old posts being linked too is awesome. We have some posters like Leolaia who don't post anymore. So I like linking to an old post in a new post. haha

    Thats just my two cents.

We could all be more aware of linking related topics. So if we have personally bookmarked a hard to find thread, we could link it to current discussion about the same topic. If newbies are asking questions then we should help them. I think of all the times that I was frustrated when learning TTATT. Sometimes I couldn't find am article or quote. I couldn't just sit at home looking at "apostate" websites. I needed help fast.

Good point. Search is your friend.

Linking the relevent past discussion posts (with a note they were searched) would add details without necessarily repeating (again) what was posted.

In another forum, I saw 3 posts of the 15 January 2014 WT. That seems over "rehash".
