How "The Fifth Estate" has helped me open up a conversation with mom

So I learnt I can pair my laptop with my PS3 and play what is playing on my Laptop on the TV...

I excitedly showed my mom and dad, and I mentioned I wanted to see "The Fifth Estate"...

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZT1wb8_tcYU

It is a movie about Julian Assange and Wikileaks. It opened up the conversation. I explained to my mom WHAT Wikileaks was, and I explained to her the revolution it made in the world.

I explained to her the good side of Wikileaks (how it exposed some Government or Bank or other institution's secrets), and then the argument against Wikileaks (documents/videos/etc shown in there can arguably be used to recruit new terrorists).

Then she asked me, "So, what's in it for this guy (Assange)?" What does he get? Money? Power?

I said to her, "I think it is about integrity and standing up for TRUTH"... "What do you think about him?" Do you think that it is OK what he did?

    She said, "Well... idk..."

    ...

"I think he did well. I mean, can you imagine being one of the relatives of the people who died (in the first video that was leaked by the site"?

I said... ya... I think he did well too. Can you imagine having a secret, knowledge that is very powerful, may change lives, and NOT being able to say it?

She said... "Ya... that must be hard"...

Anyways... I am sloooooooooowly increasing her critical thinking!! I WANT her to see this movie, and we will pretty soon, hopefully.

    Take care!

Hi ILoveTTATT, I'm glad that you are making progess with your mother. Would your mother ever agree to watch the Matrix?

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

About watching "The Matrix"... too much violence for her taste.

Maaaaybe she'll watch "1984"... just because I have been constantly mentioning the "Jobs" movie, and then watching the reference to 1984.

We will try maybe next week of having an actual study of JUST the Bible. My dad thought it was a good idea to make her wake up.

(I still have to review BITE and the pharisees)...

Hi ILoveTTATT, Start with Mathew and ask your mother why Jesus Christ was born Mt 1:21. If the Pharisees and Sadducces where chosen to lead the Jews by God, why would God send Jesus Christ? Were the Pharisees and Sadducces good leaders for the Jews, or did they victimize them?

Why did John the Baptist greet the Pharisees and Sadducces by calling them vipers in Mt 3: 7-12? John the Baptist foretold the importance of the Holy Spirit that Jesus Christ would later reiterate. Jesus Christ was the transition from leadership by men to guidance through the Holy Spirit.

Question what you read in the Bible and how the Pharisees and Sadducces used behavior, information, thought, and emotional control to victimize Jews.

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

    Robert
