Have you noticed the pictures in the mags and books, when showing a picture of a witness house in a western land where they are prehaps having the book study or some thing similiar?
How come the house is always well decorated with nice matching furniture?
According to the society we should all be giving up our jobs and pionering.
A more true to life photo if we were pioneering like the mags say we should , be a few boxes to sit on along with some unmatching second hand chairs and table along with the partly decorated walls in a bed-sit.
So why don't they show the houses of pioneers when they use pictures?
I think we know why.

Yes, I always noticed this too.
Great houses, beautiful interiors, clean, stylish...
Nothing a cleaning lady and a janitor could afford.
Nothing many of us can afford... -

I agree. I often used to think they were unwittingly promoting materialism when they showed these fancy, well-furnished houses of witnesses. The witnesses themselves also were in stylish, brand-new clothes that would be impossible to afford if you were a pioneer. And as someone who didn't buy interior decorating magazines because I knew I couldn't afford the suggested decors, it was disheartening to see these expensive furnishings and clothes virtually advertised by the WTS.
On the other hand, perhaps they were showing that materialistic JWs could also conduct bible studies, or have the Book Study at their home? -

Well it's funny because all the elders in my KH had nice homes with two car garages and three cars. Of course they had to "council" me when I chose to go to community college because as we all know a good job will do me no good when the world won't live past 1995. Yeah, in fact all the guys that told me not to go to college had good jobs and big houses.
Dear Lord, please save me from your followers.

I remember when I started going back to school. I had elders in my place almost every weekend implying that I was wasting my time and would only be able to get minimum wage jobs in the computer industry when finished. All the while they're riding around in their big fancy cars and nice suits. At least one elder was in the business as an AS400 administrator. Wonder if he got that kind of training from peddling magazines all over the place?
My JW wife was vehemently against me going back to school also, using the same kind of reasoning. They all believed that I should stay in my practically then burger flipping job and work on my dwindling to nothing meeting and field service attendance. The old "pray" about it and "wait on Jehovah" nonsense. She's since changed her tune now that she's enjoying the benefits of that "taking back my life" decision made long ago.

Well my sister is a pioneer...lives at the Richmond, Va. assembly hall...very nicely furnished (or so I have been told..never have been to visit ). Nothing but the BEST!
When they built an apartment for our CO next to the hall and needed to furnish it for him we were "encouraged" to contribute so they could get NICE furniture for him. lol and "discouraged" from giving him stuff of ours...only the BEST...the firstfruits for these faithful servants. Most of the publishers at our hall didn't have a lot themselves and then being told that their things weren't good enough...I considered it a slap in the face even at the time!
So the pics that you see are probably of the CO's place or my sisters....not your average JW...

I found that those elders that had the big houses and 2 car garages had a good education before they came into the borg. These are the ones that when they have worked for 30+ years at a six digit figure job and build up their retirement fund. It is so very easy now for those fat cats to say to go into the full time preaching work.

Most of the houses are sets.
Occasionally they make a blunder with the wallpaper bookcase.
