While this enquirey has been damning the catholic church for its failures towards victims its not the only one who have failed their children. their have been many institutions both religous and non religous that have failed in this regard ,And this includes the Jehovahs Witness faith , which will be investigated by the appropiate authourities

I am really impressed by the authorities in Australia, they have taken the issue seriously and are actually doing something to cause a change in attitudes and procedures.

Far fewer young lives will be damaged in the future. It seems as though they have put all Institutions on notice that they need to get their act together, and will pay for past misdeeds. That is how it should be.

I do hope other Governments around the World follow their lead, here in the U.K we are still doing nothing much to move things forward.

I am glad its happening too. I saw on the news last night (here in Oz) that the working with children checks will be enforced, at least in Victoria, upon any one in a religious institution that has contact with children. The WTS have been dragging their heels on this, haven't they?

Initially the wts told elders etc they didnt have to apply for WWC clearances. This was sheer arrogance on the part of the society. There were mutterings along the line of the jw not being a school with the cong sign at the front of the hall removed (it was later put back)

The Govt of Victoria tried unsuccessfully to get the wts to come on board with WCC. But there was no co-operation forthcoming. The govt then offered to waive the fees still the wts said no.

After the SHF out of matters coming from the Traralgon cong (state of Victoria) the wts did an enormous backflip and then advised if pubs wish to they can apply for a WWC clearance.

This was a hang dog sulky admission that once again they have been caught out by their inane belief that "they" are above the laws of the land.

WWC Working With Children clearances are applied for by an applicant to the Police in their State.
