It's a tough one. If the Organization's leaders are not infallible, then why persecute those with private beliefs? Also, why do the leaders condone df'ing ones with opposing viewpoints? Their own publications say that JWs are not dedicated to an organization, and do not serve men, so why does everything hinge on loyalty to the slave, even when they are wrong?
You can still bring up CTR in the right context. The FDS wrote the Insight Volumes and the Proclaimers book. Those books contain revisionist history about 1914. Plus there is plenty of post 1919 material for honest ones to examine.. I have not had a chance to try this yet, but I FEEL that using the WTBTS's own criteria for truth as mentioned at the 'God's Word is Truth', DC, is the way to go. It can't be refuted. If you keep your cool and speak respectfully, then you may help a JW. At the very least you will reveal thier heart, because all they can do is accuse you of not agreeing with the ORG. I wish someone would try it. BTW, I am considering putting together an outline of sorts, all based on the criteria for truth.
