    Hi,

So they say Jesus wasn't born on 12/25 or in the winter because it was so cold & the shepherds would not be out in the cold. I live in NYC & around the holiday time the temp. rose to 64...I'm just saying..so that's not a good reason to say Jesus wasn't born in the winter or 12/25. Also, what was the temp at that time back then....&&& the reason that they may have let the sheep stay out in the winter because there was snow on the ground & that is a way to water your flock. & Could it be that's why they have SHEEP DOGS....because they could be out with the flock, because dogs have fur/hair & hello, does winter bother sheep...NO, why, because they have wool on their bodies...oy vey. So that's not a good defense that Jesus wasn't born in the winter....

Maybe just saying it's not in the bible would be sufficient.

I like xmas because of the lights...love'em...

I believe it was supposed to take place in Bethlehem, near the Mediterranean.

I always picture NYC being colder in winter.

Rutherford read the Two Babylon book and had other sources which truthfully revealed that christmas is an adaptation of pagan customs to help w/ converting them.

So even though it may be true, it's not like they were the ones who figured it out.

But today christmas isn't about people worshipping pagan idols and the sun/moon gods. So with scriptures and reasoning one may decide if it's okay or not since it's done in appreciation of God sending Christ.

Legacy, I'll think you'll find this thread from two days ago interesting, it has an article explaining that the popular origin of Dec. 25th as a date to supplant a pagan holiday might be wrong, and it might have always been considered Jesus' birthday apart from any pagan customs.

That's really interesting, Legacy. On wiki, it says the average temperature in Bethlehem during December is 45-57.

And here's something else interesting, at least i think it is. LOL! My neighbor grew up in Bethlehem, and worked as a shepherd for some years as a teenager. he says they were out in the fields with the sheep day and night, year around! He told me that sheep eat a lot, and were always out to pasture. He said there were no stores to go buy bales of hay! Keeping them "in" would be very problematic, as to keeping them fed. If the weather got very severe, he could usually find a cave to take shelter in. He thinks it's funny that WT is so dogmatic that shepherds aren't out in the fields by night during December!

    Legacy,

You are even worse than I am when it comes to New Yorkers being self-centered. I have a poster of the famous New Yorker cover that showed a New Yorker's cognitive map of the world. The Manhattan blocks are large, the rest of the world slips into Jersey, a nameless expanse, and then San Francisco. One pond away is the Pacific Ocean. The New Yorker sells high quality art prints. I believe this cover and the cover of a Manhattan couple being cast out of Pardise across the Brooklyn Bridge are best sellers.

It was a glorious day! The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine has an annual Winter Solstice celebration. We freely embrace our pagan origins. Once they blessed a well on the property. Some female seminarians did research. Most of the Virgin Mary shrines in England are on the grounds of Druid sites.

Is there any such thing as a mild spell? It might be generally rainy and cold in Jerusalem in late December, but that doesn't mean always. Usually the winds blowing across the Mediterranean are warm enough to not have lake effect precipitation, except if unusual cold blows in (and where Israel is, it would have to be mighty cold because it would be moderated quite a bit before reaching that disgraceful area). Besides, an east wind would bring in warmer and dryer air from the mountains, regardless of what time of year it is. If there was a few days of easterly winds, it could warm up to 20 o C or more long enough to have Jesus born.

And that assumes that thing is real. Jesus seems to be modeled after 18 pagan Gods, and all are supposedly modeled after the sun. Now, the sun is going to be born, on the Southern Cross, regardless of whether it is raining, snowing, bitter cold, hot, or dry out. I guess when you make up things, and force the public to believe it as literal under threat of hellfire, you can allow for miracles that are impossible even if mild weather can and does happen in Israel during December. And even if it was born in early October, it would have been conceived around December 25.

    Hi All,

I know all the stories about Pagan'ism...when I went out in service on Xmas day, the brother was telling us that the Romans, blah blah blah....whatever...All I know is that, I know nothing of the weather during Jesus' time...& neither does anyone else. For all we know, NYC could have been like the Bahamas.

@Aunt Bee (how's Opie)? LOL...anyways, had to say it...but you are correct. The sheep were out all year long...the cold helped the wool thicken, the snow served as water. Now my thinking if the weather got severe, maybe that's how the concept of Sheep dogs started...Dogs would have been able to keep the sheep together & keep away the wolves/people & animals. I'm just saying, that saying that Jesus couldn't have been born in Dec. because of the Shepherds not being outside because of the cold...is weak....

The history channel had a good show on the history of Xmas...it was kind of like a holloween. I would love to share it but too long of a story.

All we know is that he was born then died....so if folks want to celebrate it so be it....what makes me say ummm, is the kind of debt folks go into & the guilt because they couldn't buy for whom ever.....I think sharing a good meal with family & friends is a wonderful thing, & that is a gift in itself to be able to sit down & eat...there are so many that can't on 12/25 or any other day, because they don't have it.
