Yesterday at the book study it was brought out that people simply cannot understand the bible without the societies interpretations.
I have been pondering some scriptures and asked my teacher this:
Who is Paul speaking to in 1 Thess, and how do you explain chapter 4, verses 13-18. Well she answered the first part of my question but waffled on the second. I'll have to do some research, was the response. What is that? To me the scripture is pretty clear. The survivors along with the resurrected ones will "be caught away in clouds to meet the Lord in the air" simple.

here's a good one that's been brought up before - one of those
things they don't tell you about.6 million Witnesses on earth?
Well, the ransom sacrifice doesn't apply to them!
Look at the Memorial where ALMOST NO ONE partakes of the
symbols of Jesus' body and blood. The Watchtower admitted years ago
that the ransom sacrifice only applies to the "anointed" -
about 8000 people.So, if you become a Witness, it's likely (6 million vs. 8000)
that Jesus won't be your mediator. You'll just have to work that out thru the organization!

Paul was writing to those as he said, in verse 17, who are in union with Christ. Paul is making a contrast between the resurrection of those who die before Christ arrives and those who are living at the moment when Jesus is said to arrive and take the remaining members of his anointed congregation to himself in heaven. Those who die before Christ arrives must sleep in death but are resurrected first, during Christ's presence. Afterwards, during the tribulation, the trumpet blows, and Jesus collects all the remaining members. The difference is that those who are said to be living don't have to sleep in death, but, they do have to die. Hope that helps

I suspect that she said that she had to do some research because no matter how clear a scripture may be to a thinking person, Jehovah's Witnesses have to check their watchtower publications so that they can give you the watchtower explanation of your question.

since they have to die, how do you suppose that will happen? Via all natural cause? -

It's a sacred secret so I ain't supposed to tell you. Paul said at Cor. 15:51 "Look! I tell you a sacred secret: We shall not all fall asleep, but we shall all be changed."
