    Hello everyone

I’m sure that this will interest some « apologist «.

    From the book
" RICHES " by J.F. Rutherford (publishers WTBS in 1936)

    Page 246:
" If anyone dared to express his opinion contrary to the doctrines taught by the clergy of the Roman Catholic organization, that one was straightaway charged with heresy. Early in the eleventh century many persons charged with heresy because they dared hold or expressan opinion contrary to the Roman Catholic or-ganization were executed by burning or strangling."

    and also page 247 :
" Two features of the Inquisition stand out prominently,to wit: Prosecution for speech, and suppression and destruction of books. The manifest purpose of such presecution and the destruction of books was and isto keep the people in ignorance and to hide from them the frauds of the Roman Catholic organization."

By the way ...who has a similar attitude today??

    Greetings, J.C.MacHislopp

You know what a dub would answer to that don't you :
Why do you dig into such old documents, the light has gotten brighter, or something like that...

It's simple (a) God has always worked through an organization, (b) God hates heretics and (c) He changes the organization he works with every now and then. So the JWs are simply picking up where the Catholics left off, that is, after they got soft - or was it that they got religion? Anyway, now the WTS merrily persecutes those who dissent since the Catholics have lost their zeal for the true God.

    G'day Mac,

The attitude of the Joe Ratherflawed Borg at the time when Riches was published is emphasised many times in the tenor of the publications of the time. (Has it changed?)

    Try this one:

"Such self-willed ones do not have an understanding. They do not recognize that the Lord is directing his work, that the Lord Jesus at the temple has his own way of doing things, and that he transmits to his anointed ones the necessary information, and if the instructions sent out are wrong, then the responsibility is to the Lord and not to the local service committee." (The Watchtower May 15, 1937, page 153)

So you see, it wasn't their fault, it was Jesus' fault! On this blasphemy is built the modern-day attitudes of the WTS.

Mac, it's wonderful to 'hear' from you again!

    Cheers,
    Ozzie

Cilia, your probably right! The way to counter that is with:

There is much in the way of spiritual riches and aids toward mature knowledge in these earlier publications, and their study is most certainly worth your time.
