4 Reasons Why WTS is Doomed

Reason #1 They are losing (if not lost already) the NEXT
GENERATION of young Witnesses. Leading a double life
has now become the standard for most U.S. congregations
I'm aware of. As my df'd stepdaughter noted "all the
kids in the hall I grew up with are gone or half in
half out!". Without growth from the field, Witness
kids leaving = no future for the Watchtower.

Reason#2 They are losing money, specifically, contributions.
Paperback books, downsizing Bethel, no subscriptions,
and bring-your-own-food to assemblies are all symptoms
of a tired flock voting with their wallets (while the
kids are voting with their feet). This is starting to
reduce their preaching work because big countries
(U.S., Germany, Japan)help subsidize the preaching effort
in poor countries. No money = no future.

Reason#3 They can't attract enough professional, educated
brothers to run the organization - and they are
losing the capable men they have. They can't use
sisters to manage the Society (this isn't Hewlett-
Packard). Elders are quitting and the "B" team isn't
in place to take over (see reason #1).

More than this, they don't have enough critical
professional people to run the organization at the
highest levels. Bethel tries to train their own
engineers and lawyers - because they can't get
competent brothers to volunteer. This, by itself,
causes downsizing, loss of efficiency - and disasters
because critical mistakes are made by inexperienced
leadership facing an increasingly hostile environment.
Publications like the Watchtower magazine are heavily
'dumbed down' because this reflects the simpleminded
level of thought that now guides the Society at its
highest levels! This situation has been gradually
getting worse, over the years, without many Witnesses
    being aware of it.

Reason#4 They can't stop technology - and its impact. They love
to quote Isaiah - "no weapon formed against you will
have success" - but in fact the internet is a devastating
weapon they can't stop - exposing scandals and wrecking
existing loyalties to their rule. They can't stop the
progress of science - which will give men the power to
regrow organs, slow (or reverse) aging, and cure
diseases that have plagued man since the dawn of history.
The pace of discovery is now so fast that the whole of
human life and society is likely to be changed radically
in the next ten years. Good luck peddling Armageddon
    after that!

There are other factors that will come into play as this drama
unfolds but these are the four main reasons, as I see them,
for anticipating the Watchtower's bleak future.

Feel free to share them with your aggressive Witness relatives.

    Good post metatron.

I can certainly confirm number 1 and 3 in my own local congregation.
I have a mole (my son!) and he tells me that most of the kids at the hall have confided in him that they can't wait to grow up and leave the religion.

And, a certain brother has been brown-nosing the elders and CO for years trying to become an elder but he was always rejected (even by his own elder dad!) because he was just a tosser. Anyway, guess who's just been made an elder now they're short? Talk about scraping the barrel!

Obviously, the lack of professionals in the religion will also hit the finances, you can't get much spare cash washing windows!

Still, they've got a lot of money stashed away in the coffers, they can live off their fat for a loooong time yet.

    Very good post.

But one remark about food at assemblies: in Germany they used to serve food at the assemblies for ca$h. There was a brochure for those responisble at the assemblies that stated that the money for food (and for parking) should be more than the actual costs so that there was some money left to finance the assembly.

German governemt found out and took the Society to court (must be in the 70s) because they were (and are) excempt from tax paying. But if they are gaining money from selling food they have to pay taxes. They lost and had to pay more than a 1'000'000 DEM by a date.

They presented the facts to the congregations that they did not have the money and so money was collected for this special reason. (This was the only instance in Germany so far that the WTS said to be in money trouble.) They were able to pay the fine.

So the fact that there is no more food at the assemblies is not to cut cost but a further reason for their money problems.

Nice post Meta! You did forget one thing tho - the core Super Believers, the Fanatics, who are at the Center. They'll keep the Watchtower going for many decades yet. Our best hope is to limit new Watchtower recruits, I guess...

    Met,

Your post sounds accurate to me. I've written about several of these points myself. The standard double life among younger JWs I've had verified over and over. And the power of the Net grows daily.

I mean, Bill Bowen gets invited to a JC meeting, and Peter Smith has an article in the Courier-Journal about it the next day, and we all have copies of Peter's article within minutes. THAT's the power of the Internet.

And every newly interested person that types "Jehovah's Witnesses" in a search engine will have in seconds more truthful and damning info about the Org at their fingertips than the average JW can even imagine exists. Good post.

One thing is for sure, the Borg is having a BRAIN-DRAIN!

The old saying rings true,"You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time!"

This even works for SHEEP,as long as they have some active brain cells.

Over the last five years, it seems like the WTS just can't get people excited like they used to. When they used to say "let's all Auxiliary Pioneer!" people actually used to get excited about it. Not anymore.

When they used to say "Attend all the meetings cuz they're all important and interesting!" people used to obey. Not anymore. They don't give a rip about going to the Isaiah book study or going to the WT study so they can parrot back the answers that were just read to them.

When the WT used to say "Go out in service every weekend - both Saturday and Sunday!" people used to do it. Not anymore. Around here, just a handful show up on Saturday. And people couldn't care less about going door-knocking on Sundays.

People are getting tired of it. People have to work 40+ hours a week, and the WT higher-ups just don't get it. When they see a C.O. who has his big swanky car bought & paid for by the brothers roll into town and criticize the R&F for not going out in service more and for not presenting the offer for the month, the people get tired. Sick and tired.

The WT will always have some die-hards, but so will Fascism. Uh, hold on, is that redundant?

Good post, we can only hope for their eventual demise.
