Nice tongue in cheek reference to the fact that he believed Armageddon was coming before he turned 18 and at 70 still believes it is coming soon - poor chap - but at least his delusions allowed him to travel the world to delude others. I wonder whether he will have a death bed realization that his dream of seeing the big A before he died so he could live forever would not be realized? I also liked the reference to them as Christians - someone should have enlightened the journo that they do not worship Christ - they worship the WBTS GB.

I see this was 2009, if he is still with us, he has waited another 5 years for a fictional event to become reality.
Still, I can't "think of a better way of life" can you ?

There's a scripture in the book of Amos about longing for the day of Jehovah. Bad things will happen to those that do according to that scripture.

If you have publically, proudly and repeatedly declared your belief in "the end" - and after decades of work spreading the word that "the end" is coming - but it still has not occurred, you have backed your whole life so far into the corner that you cannot decently declare, "I was wrong". It may be a good time, though, to redeem your faith by talking about all your wonderful world travels spreading the word. And, in the meantime, the world goes on.
"A man believes what he wants to believe and disregards the rest" (Paul Simon, The Boxer).

That just about sums up the attitude many old- time witnesses have doesnt it ? Pride and the reluctance to admit they were wrong .
They have invested in a life , living to the dictates of a few men in brooklyn , who keep dangling the carrot of Armageddon/paradise before their followers , its just around the corner , the end is so near , it cant be more than 5 years away judging by whats happening in the world , etc.etc.

LOL. I hardly think he is waiting for Armageddon. JW's like him live their lives the way they want to- away from the oversight of their local cong and elders, travelling overseas to usually spend more time sightseeing than actual witnessing, and gaining status by blogging about their travels & adventures. It's actually more time-wasting than witnessing at home, as time is taken up learning a foreign language, dealing with the rules & regulations of another country, etc. It's probably the only way to make life as a JW half-worth living. But lol, I don't feel sorry for him.
