Why do we age and die?
Not because of original sin in the garden of Eden, because Adam and Eve and the forbidden fruit never existed. It's rather because of entropy.

Good ol' Brian.
Both the Wonders of Life and Wonders of the Universe series were excellent.
Isaac Asimov was great.
I've been reminded of Asimov lately with our rising longevity, and society's increasing obsession with hygiene and health. It is now socially unacceptable to cough openly in public (in the sleeve! in the sleeve!), and I suspect hand shaking will be gone in a generation or so.
Compound this with the increasing personableness of our PDA's, and we have kids communing with their gadgets rather than family right beside them. Even at the dinner table (gasp).
Burned in my memory is a longevian SF character whose closest companions are her robots, and who is obsessively afraid of direct human contact. We're headed that way! Asimov, a visionary, I tell you!
It's suprising the body lasts as long as it does so, not just because of entropy. We are surrounded by extremely reactive Oxygen which likes to Oxidise everything it comes into contract with. The body has to continually repair and replace itself over and over again. Your DNA is prone to deformations and mutations. This is not something that just goes on between an egg and sperm, This happens your whole life and can result in cancers and other illnesses. Finally, we face an onslaught of micro organisms and viruses which fight for survival alongside us, and our immunity changes and evolves together wirth them.
So the question we were taught as witnesses, "Why does the body grow old?" is a false proposition, and the question should really read, "How does the human body last so long?"
