From time to time my commute on the BQE takes me past the old Brooklyn properties. Many of which stand now sans advertising. Soon the Watchtower sign will be gone altogether.

Why would any corporation willingly lose the ability to reach out to millions everyday just by means of signage? Even the morning news shot from Cadman Plaza clearly shows the time/temp and Watchtower sign. The weatherman often notes the view of Manhattan over the Watchtower.

It's clear the only reason for moving from the, dare I say, most important city in the world, is fear post 9/11.

So much for trust in God's protection.

CTRWTF - all I can can think of is how your commute on the BQE must SUCK. Sorry you have to endure that.

Yes, I agree with PHIZZY. . . . This has nothing to do with advertising anything. It has everything to do with the cult mentality.

My mum said, on the subject of UK bethel moving to Essex, that the SocieTy are moving from the cities because they figure if any disaster happens it's most likely to affect the cities. not sure whether she got this from any official source or whether it's just her supposition but does seem to fit the stereotypical cult strategy.

Disasters? Like what, an earthquake?? Last time I checked, natural disasters don't mind crossing over man-made borders on a map. Nutters..

I am half an hour from the Battery. We used to drive past the sign all the time. My first day of law practice I discovered that the firm's library had massive glass walls and looked far down on the sign. I would love to document the sign disappearing. Will they tell people? I can see the New York Times, Daily News, and New York Post covering it as a local color story. It will be too late for me. I believe people would appreciate photos here.

I also want to see the Memorial Gardens at the WTC site.

Can you suggest where I should go by subway or bus route to get decent photographs or video? My knowledge of Brooklyn, with the exception of Brooklyn Heights and a bit of Park Slope, is poor. I can't even recall where we viewed the sign. The firm went bankrupt or I would ask a partner.

I suppose Brooklyn is going to become far more gentrified with the WT leaving.

    Hi BOTR

I want to get to the WTC as well. When it FINALLY warms up, you can make a day of it and walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and easily see the old factories with no signage. I'm not too hip on the subway cause I drive most of the time. But I seem to remember the A train has a stop at Cadman Plaza. On a nice day it's cool to hang at the promenade. Maybe get a slice at Grimaldi's
