A lot of times, when people look at pictures taken by a point-and-shoot vs an SLR, they know something is different, but just can't pinpoint exactly what it is...

It is the shallower depth of field...

ABibleStudent said he likes pictures with large apertures and black-and-white. Well... I don't have many photographs like that, but I have some close-ups that I think are very good:

I love extreme close ups like that. I don't have a digital SLR, but my camera has a macro and a super macro, so that helps in getting these kind of shots. It takes a lot of patience, at least for me, you have to figure out what is going to be in focus, what needs to be out of focus, then line things up. Just a slight change can throw everything all off. And if you are trying to get a bee, which I love, that adds another level of complexity. My French lavender is blooming right now, and the bees are going crazy, I'll try to get a shot of that tomorrow. We are in a drought here in California, but we finally got some rain, the hills finally greened up and the California poppies bloomed all at once and the yellow wild mustard, it's pretty spectacular, one of the things I love about California.

Wow Lisa!! Upload them here if you wish!! I would love to see them!! I took these using very, very fast settings on my camera. You have to make the shutter speed really fast, like 1/200 or 1/400, widest aperture you can, and relatively high ISO so the pictures are not too dark. If they come out dark... just use Photoshop to brighten them up...

    Will wait for your pics!!

Hi ILoveTTATT, Nice Pics! I like the one with a bee on the flower. How did you get the bee to cooperate? Do you have similar pics with people?

Peace be with you and everyone, who you love,

    Robert

I love me a bit of bokeh.. My 50mm f/1.4 gives great bokeh, specially evening portraits with fairy lights in the background, you get great unfocused globules of coloured light in the background, it's magical!
