Today’s edition of “USA TODAY” reveals that “until recently, South Africa’s powerful mining industry offered women two lines of work; secretarial or prostitution. But, the country’s new constitution has paved the way for them to actually work in the mines, alongside the men, for the same pay.”
I imagine that the women in South Africa have got to be pretty thrilled with the prospect of a third alternative.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see future news releases along these lines…
“Mattel announced today it’s plans to release a new “Mining Barbie”, said to be targeted at pre-teen, South African girls.” “A spokesperson for the California based toy manufacturer said “this completes a series of three dolls released for this particular market.”
“Prostitute Barbie” and “Secretary Barbie” have already done extremely well and have likewise received critical acclaim from government officials.” “We are ramping up production now for the new “Mining Barbie” doll in anticipation of expected demand.”
“Mattel offered “no comment” on previously released “Aids Barbie” or “Single Mother With Seventeen Children Barbie” both of which experienced fewer than anticipated sales.”
Apart from the above, I have a personal concern that women who work two jobs and are having their “shafts mined” while engaged in deep mining operations, receive double pay coupled with hazardous-duty compensation.
