I don't think the apostles were baptized. Most of John the Baptist followers stayed with John.

1 Pet. 3:21 is not teaching us that baptism is what saves us. Rather, it is showing us that the water symbolizes a spiritual cleansing through the power of the Holy Spirit gained through Christ's victory over death. It is the person's appeal to God that saves the soul--not the washing of water upon the body.

Baptism is a core teaching of Christianity. Baptisim was explained by St. Augustine as a necessary step for eternal salvation. Babies that were not baptised were condemned to hell (or Limbo - not proposed by Catholic church anymore). JW follows this 1600 year old teaching of Augustine: baptism is a step to join the church/kingdom of God (John 3:5), bestowing salvation (Mark 16:16), and giving pardon for our sin (Acts 2:38).
