While at my local gas station/convenience store this morning, satisfying my caffeine craving with a big cup of iced tea, I saw 3 separate teams of JW's on their way out into field service.
I wasn't sure at first, but after walking past the car and seeing a young boy I remember from the KH, wearing his suit and tie, it became apparent. If he and the man escorting him (vaguely familiar to me, but NOT his father) had not been glaring at me with daggers in their eyes, I might have approached and said hello. He and my daughter used to play together, even though she does not remember him at all. I felt so bad for that young JW! Doesn't he get time to relax and unwind on his school holiday? UGH!!
I saw 2 more couples in their dressy clothes, so I'm fairly certain they were all JW's. I don't usually go to this particular store, but today we had a medical appointment in town. Now that I know this is a regular stop for JW's on their way out into the field, I might be a little more alert.
This is the same gas station that Miss K found me. It is interesting that about 1/2 the JWs I see from that KH seem to either hate or fear me, while the rest are ambivalent or friendly. Last summer, my friend told me that she had "heard stories, but wasn't really sure what happened... you can tell me, if you want to..." and then she quickly changed the subject.
Based on the way Miss K claims that she "doesn't know what happened..." and says it like it is a question (that she doesn't want to ask or hear the answer to), I wonder WHAT has been said, and WHY 3 years later, they are all still acting so strangely.
When you were a JW kid, did you put more field service time in during your spring break? Even just a week off from school, means you should seize the opportunity to drain every last ounce of fun and enjoyment out of your life by working to further the Watchtower Society and its message? What a sad childhood for this sweet little boy.
