When the brothers pass the bread and wine why do they sit down and pass it to themselves even though they've handled it already?

It's a ritual....When passing it out you are the SERVER. When you sit you are SERVED

Kind of like the waiter at Chuck E Cheese LOL

Because the GB fools make ridiculous rules and the elders obey them.

It really is pretty funny to watch, no?

funny oubliette? yes like the symbolic performance of the

    WT jesus.

    'standing up for his people",

sitting down at the right hand,

    riding the horse--

    sitting down in judgement

    arriving,

    being present

    holding forth--

    .musical chairs

    coreographed by the chairman.

Don't you know that it's a mystical and magical experience to be able just to touch the plate and the glass which contain the emblems which turn you into an IMMORTAL spirit being when you die - if you are "chosen" personally by God to eat and drink?

Aren't you privileged to be so close to being the same as God, (IMMORTAL) and yet so far away!! (Gen. 3:5)

It can get quite funny if they have not choreographed the whole ritual very carefully too esp as to who takes the emblems back to the table. Its really so silly - Many moons ago an elderly partaker giving the talk simply had the attendant offer him his sip and krisp while he stood at the podium. then again he was a very progressive old man - why ahead of the WTS on doctrine and subsequently removed from the body because of his views - Internet was not available then. [needless to say at his funeral he was eulogised by 3 members of the Bethal Branch Committee - the longest eulogy I have ever experienced]

Yeah - the idea is that the servers ( and the speaker ) need to be formally "served" with the emblems ( to give them the opportunity to partake). There was a Kingdom Ministry on it a few years ago - doubtless one of the more pedantic GB members dreamt up this idea.

It does look a bit silly , especially in larger congregations - a bit like a slightly confused variant of "pass the parcel". I remember being one of the servers and one section of the Kingdom Hall with a couple of really elderly brothers serving were taking ages so we were standing in the aisle with the bread & the wine feeling very self conscious waiting for them to finish.
