    Is Jesus our Protector?

    *** w12 9/15 p. 22 par. 18 Learn From the Patience of Jehovah and Jesus ***

Jesus has all authority in heaven and on earth, and nothing can snatch you away from his protective care—except you. (John 10:28, 29)

    *** w09 4/15 p. 30 par. 11 Appreciating Jesus—The Greater David and the Greater Solomon ***

Like David, though, Jesus is a compassionate king, and he will protect the “great crowd” through Armageddon. (Rev. 7:9, 14)

Does the WTS say that jws should depend on God to protect them as individuals?

    *** w08 9/15 p. 9 par. 8 Jehovah Is “the Provider of Escape” for Us ***

As individuals, we know that our immediate physical protection is not guaranteed. We take the position expressed by the three faithful Hebrews who refused to bow down to King Nebuchadnezzar’s image of gold. Those God-fearing young men did not presume that Jehovah would miraculously protect them from physical harm. (Read Daniel 3:17, 18.) As matters turned out, Jehovah did deliver them from the flames of the fiery furnace. (Dan. 3:21-27) Even in Bible times, however, miraculous deliverance was the exception rather than the rule. Many faithful servants of Jehovah died at the hands of opposers.—Heb. 11:35-37.

    Jehovah—Our Provider and Protector

“Because he has affection for me, I will rescue him. I will protect him because he knows my name.”— PS. 91:14.

    HOW WOULD YOU RESPOND?

    • Why can we say that Jehovah is the Grand Provider?
    • What role has Jesus played in reconciling humans to God?
    • How does Jehovah protect those who love and obey him?

1, 2. What differences do we have in family circumstances and spiritual backgrounds?

JEHOVAH is responsible for the existence of the family arrangement. (Eph. 3:14, 15) Even if we belong to the same family, however, we have different traits and circumstances. You may have lived with your parents from birth to adulthood. Others may have lost their parents in death, perhaps because of sickness, an accident, or some other tragedy. Still others do not even know who their parents are.

2 Among members of Jehovah’s family of worshippers, spiritual backgrounds also vary. You may have been ‘brought up in the truth,’ as some say, and your parents inculcated godly principles in you. (Deut. 6:6, 7) Or you may be one of the thousands who have come to learn the truth through the preaching activity of other servants of Jehovah.—Rom. 10:13-15; 1 Tim. 2:3, 4.

Brought up in the truth (quotes….not a scripture)

    Whose truth?

The WTS teaches that children brought up as jws are more spiritual than those who come in as adults and that is a factor in deciding if some brother should be appointed as an MS or elder or letting a very young jw get baptized.

    *** w95 2/15 pp. 24-25 Dominican Republic—Still Open to Discovery ***

Indeed, young people, both those brought up in the truth and others, seem to take their worship of God seriously. For example, Tamar and her sister Keila were both baptized at the age of 10 and entered the full-time pioneer ministry by 11. Wendy Carolina was 12 when she symbolized her dedication by water baptism, and two years later, in 1985, she started regular pioneering. Today she is an effective teacher, still enjoying the full-time ministry. Young Jovanny, baptized at 10 and a regular pioneer at 11, is conducting four home Bible studies.

    3. What do all of us have in common?

3 Despite the factors just mentioned, all of us have certain things in common. We suffer the consequences of Adam’s disobedience and have inherited imperfection, sin, and death. (Rom. 5:12) Even so, as true worshippers, we can rightly address Jehovah as “our Father.” Referring to God’s chosen people of ancient times, Isaiah 64:8 states: “O Jehovah, you are our Father.” Moreover, Jesus opened his model prayer with the words: “Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified.”—Matt. 6:9.

    True worshippers – only jws

Can the “other sheep” address God as father before the end of the 1,000 year reign? Why could Abraham only be called God’s friend?

    *** it-1 p. 605 Declare Righteous ***

This declaring of such Christians righteous, therefore, goes much farther than in the case of Abraham (and other pre-Christian servants of Jehovah), previously discussed. Indicating the scope of Abraham’s justification, the disciple James wrote: “The scripture was fulfilled which says: ‘Abraham put faith in Jehovah, and it was counted to him as righteousness,’ and he came to be called ‘Jehovah’s friend.’” (Jas 2:20-23) So, because of his faith, Abraham was declared righteous as a friend of God, not as a son of God because of being “born again” with heavenly life in view. (Joh 3:3) The Scriptural record makes clear that prior to Christ’s coming neither such sonship nor such a heavenly hope had been opened up to men.—Joh 1:12, 17, 18; 2Ti 1:10; 1Pe 1:3; 1Jo 3:1.

***Reasoning book rs p. 304 par. 4 Races of Mankind ***

Rom. 8:19-21: “The eager expectation of the creation is waiting for the revealing of the sons of God . . . The creation itself also will be set free from enslavement to corruption and have the glorious freedom of the children of God.” (Relief for mankind will come when “the sons of God,” after receiving heavenly life, are ‘revealed’ as taking positive action on behalf of mankind under the direction of Christ. After faithful ones on earth [referred to as “the creation” in this scripture] have attained to human perfection and have demonstrated unshakable loyalty to Jehovah as Universal Sovereign, then they too will enjoy the fine relationship of children of God. People of all races will share in this.)

4, 5. As we examine the depth of our appreciation for our Father, Jehovah, what will it be helpful to consider?

4 Our heavenly Father provides the care and protection we need as a people calling on his name in faith. The psalmist quotes him as saying: “Because he [a true worshipper] has affection for me, I will rescue him. I will protect him because he knows my name.” (Ps. 91:14) Yes, Jehovah God lovingly provides escape from our enemies and protects us as his people, so that we are not wiped out.

“protection we needs as A PEOPLE” “as his people” = not individuals

The WTS needs brackets to interpret the scripture [a true worshipper] = only jws

5 To enhance our appreciation for our heavenly Father, let us consider three important factors: (1) Our Father is our Provider. (2) Jehovah is our Protector. (3) And God is our best Friend. As we consider these points, it will be helpful to meditate on our relationship with God and discern how we can honor him as our Father. It will also be beneficial to reflect on the blessings Jehovah holds out to those who draw close to him.—Jas. 4:8.

    Jesus doesn’t provide?

    Jesus doesn’t protect?

God is our best Friend but not our father yet

    Draw close to Jesus?

    JEHOVAH, THE GRAND PROVIDER

    6. What is one way in which Jehovah proves to be the Giver of “every good gift”?

6 “Every good gift and every perfect present is from above,” wrote the disciple James, “coming down from the Father of the celestial lights.” (Jas. 1:17) Life itself is a wonderful gift from Jehovah. (Ps. 36:9) By using our lives to do the divine will, we experience abundant blessings now and have the prospect of eternal life in the new world. (Prov. 10:22; 2 Pet. 3:13) But how is this possible in view of the tragic consequences of Adam’s disobedience?

Divine will according to whom or what = the bible, do we need men to interpret it?

(2 Peter 1:20) 20 For YOU know this first, that no prophecy of Scripture springs from any private interpretation.

    *** w11 12/1 p. 12 Who Can Interpret Prophecy? ***

The inspired prophets of old, such as Daniel, did not personally analyze the current trends of their time and then attempt to unravel a complicated future by uttering a prophecy. If they had tried to force the future to unfold in this way, such prophesying would have originated in their own imagination. It would then have been a human prediction, a forecast built upon an imperfect foundation.

CARROT ON THE STICK = have the prospect of eternal life in the new world.

Only a prospect = not given until 1,000 years after Armageddon

    7. How has God opened the way for us to have a close relationship with him?

7 Jehovah is indeed the Grand Provider in ways without number. For instance, his undeserved kindness comes to our rescue. Yes, all of us are sinful and have inherited imperfection from our first earthly father. (Rom. 3:23) Nevertheless, because of Jehovah’s love, he took the initiative to open the way for us to have a close relationship with him. “By this the love of God was revealed in our case,” wrote the apostle John, “that God sent his only-begotten Son into the world so that we might gain life through him. The love is in this respect, not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a propitiatory sacrifice for our sins.”—1 John 4:9, 10.

Why no close relationship with Jesus? The WTS teaches that their members can only be close to God through Jesus…sounds like you must close to Jesus first and foremost

8, 9. How did Jehovah prove to be the Grand Provider in the time of Abraham and Isaac? (See opening image.)

8 In the 19th century B.C.E., a prophetic event unfolded that reveals the extent of Jehovah’s loving provision for obedient humans to enjoy everlasting life. Hebrews 11:17-19 explains: “By faith Abraham, when he was tested, as good as offered up Isaac—the man who had gladly received the promises attempted to offer up his only-begotten son—although it had been said to him: ‘What will be called your offspring will be through Isaac.’ But he reasoned that God was able to raise him up even from the dead, and he did receive him from there in an illustrative way.” It is not difficult to see the parallel. Jehovah offered his Son, Jesus Christ, in behalf of the world of mankind.—Read John 3:16, 36.

9 How Isaac must have welcomed his deliverance from a sacrificial death! He was undoubtedly grateful for God’s provision of a replacement sacrifice—a ram caught in a nearby thicket. (Gen. 22:10-13) No wonder that place came to be called “Jehovah-jireh,” which means “Jehovah Will Provide.”—Gen. 22:14; ftn.

For OBEDIENT humans = CARROT again “enjoy everlasting life”

So does God ask jws to day to sacrifice their children by

    Not giving them blood transfusions

Not protecting them from pedophiles in the congregation

Isaac was saved but were jw children saved?

    PROVISION FOR RECONCILIATION

10, 11. Who have taken the lead in “the ministry of the reconciliation,” and how have they done so?

10 As we meditate on how Jehovah proves to be the Grand Provider, we gratefully acknowledge the vital role played by Jesus Christ, even as Paul did when he wrote: “This is what we have concluded, that one man died for all; so, then, all had died. And he died for all so that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for him who died for them and was raised up.”—2 Cor. 5:14, 15.

Meditate (how often does WTS use that word in this article? 3x)

Acknowledge the role of the WTS as Jesus’ self-proclaimed brothers

Died for all—including the GB who do not have life in themselves

11 Because of their love for God and their gratitude for the inestimable privilege of serving him, the early Christians gladly accepted “the ministry of the reconciliation.” Their work of preaching and making disciples opened the way for honesthearted individuals to come to be at peace with God, enjoy his friendship, and eventually become his spiritual children. Today, anointed servants of Jehovah perform the same ministry. What they accomplish as ambassadors for God and Christ makes it possible for rightly disposed people to be drawn by Jehovah and become believers.—Read 2 Corinthians 5:18-20; John 6:44; Acts 13:48.

    Serving him or the WTS/GB?

Honesthearted individuals/rightly disposed – who would those be?

Become his spiritual children = in 1,000 years or more

Ambassadors = only 144,000; other sheep = envoys

    Believers of whom?

12, 13. How can we show that we appreciate Jehovah’s many provisions?

12 Out of appreciation for Jehovah as the Grand Provider, all Christians who have an earthly hope share with the anointed in the Kingdom-preaching work. In this activity, we make use of the Bible, another of God’s splendid provisions. (2 Tim. 3:16, 17) By skillful use of God’s inspired Word in our ministry, we give others the opportunity to gain everlasting life. To help us in this work, each of us relies on yet another provision from Jehovah—his holy spirit. (Zech. 4:6; Luke 11:13) The results are impressive, as shown in each edition of the Yearbook of Jehovah’s Witnesses. What an honor it is to share in this work to the praise of our Father and Provider!

All Christians = only jws are TRUE Christians

Skillful use of the Bible = how often do you see jws use the bible?

What does the holy spirit do?

    CARROT = everlasting life

Results more impressive than the Mormons or Islam?

13 In view of all that God has provided, we do well to ask ourselves: ‘Am I doing all I can in my ministry to show Jehovah the depth of my appreciation for his provisions? In what ways can I improve and become a more effective preacher of the good news?’ We can demonstrate our gratitude for God’s wonderful provisions by keeping Kingdom interests first in our lives. If we do so, Jehovah will see to it that our needs are cared for. (Matt. 6:25-33) Because of God’s love, we surely want to do as much as we can to please him and make his heart rejoice.—Prov. 27:11.

DO MORE = Am I doing all I can

    WORKS = show appreciation

Effective = how many studies over the last 30 years of their life?

How does God care for our needs—Like the widow of Zarephath?

Will the elders and the WTS have ways other can judge us?

    14. How has Jehovah been the Rescuer of his people?

14 The psalmist David sang: “I am helpless and poor; may Jehovah pay attention to me. You are my helper and my rescuer.” (Ps. 40:17) Jehovah has repeatedly been the Rescuer of his people as a group, especially when they have been severely persecuted and relentlessly hounded by their enemies. How thankful we are for God’s help at such times and for the many spiritual provisions he constantly makes for us!

David was helped by God to avoid the scriptural punishment for adultery and murder…shown mercy that was not shown to other Israelites under the law code.

Rescuer of his people, AS A GROUP (not individuals)

So, jws do not expect individual protection…just the resurrection

    JEHOVAH PROTECTS

    15. Illustrate how a loving father seeks to protect his child.

15 A loving father not only provides for his children but also seeks to protect them. He would naturally try to rescue them if they were in danger. One brother remembers a specific incident that occurred when he was just a young boy. He and his father were returning home from the field service when their path took them across a stream. A heavy downpour that morning had caused the brook to flood. The only way to cross the water was to jump from one large stone to another. Going ahead of his father, the boy lost his footing on one of the stones, tumbled into the flooding water, and went under twice. How grateful the boy was that his father quickly grabbed him firmly by the shoulder and saved him from drowning! Our heavenly Father delivers us from what might be viewed as raging torrents of this wicked world and from its ruler, Satan. Jehovah is certainly the best Protector anyone could ever hope to have.—Matt. 6:13; 1 John 5:19.

Based on the GROUP protection in previous paragraphs, why given an example of INDIVIDUAL protection?

16, 17. How did Jehovah help and protect the Israelites when they fought the Amalekites?

16 The loving protection made possible by Jehovah is well-illustrated by what occurred after he rescued the Israelites from Egyptian bondage and miraculously protected them as they crossed the Red Sea in 1513 B.C.E. After trekking through the wilderness toward Mount Sinai, the nation arrived at Rephidim.

Rescued the Israelites as a group

17 In view of the divine prophecy of Genesis 3:15, Satan may have been desperate as he looked for an opportunity to attack the vulnerable Israelites. He did this through the Amalekites, who were enemies of God’s people. (Num. 24:20) Consider what Jehovah accomplished by means of four faithful men—Joshua, Moses, Aaron, and Hur. As Joshua fought the Amalekites, stationed on a nearby hill were Moses, Aaron, and Hur. The Israelites proved superior in battle when Moses raised his hands. When his hands became heavy, Aaron and Hur supported them. So it was that with Jehovah’s help and protection, “Joshua defeated Amalek and his people.” (Ex. 17:8-13) Moses built an altar there, calling it “Jehovah-nissi,” which means “Jehovah Is My Signal Pole.”—Read Exodus 17:14, 15; ftn.

May have = adding to the Bible

    Did any Israelite soldiers die?

    KEPT SAFE FROM SATAN’S CLUTCHES

18, 19. What protection has God provided for his servants in our time?

18 Jehovah protects those who love and obey him. Like the Israelites at Rephidim, we look to God for safety when confronted by enemies. Jehovah has often protected us as a group, and he keeps us out of the Devil’s clutches. Think of the many occasions when God has safeguarded our brothers who were maintaining their Christian neutrality. For example, this was the case during the Nazi era in Germany and other countries in the 1930’s and early 1940’s. Reading and reflecting on life stories and Yearbook accounts of God’s protection during times of persecution will strengthen our trust in Jehovah as our Refuge.—Ps. 91:2.

How does God protect them; they don’t die?

    Protected us AS A GROUP

They don’t mention the Bible Students/jws that were executed.

Jehovah can use our fellow believers to help us stay faithful in difficult times (See paragraphs 18-20)

19 Through Jehovah’s organization and its publications, we receive loving reminders for our protection. Consider how this has proved to be of benefit in recent times. As this world sinks further into the quagmire of debauchery and pornography, Jehovah has provided urgent reminders and practical help to alert us to moral dangers. For instance, we receive fatherly counsel to avoid bad associations through the misuse of social networking. *1 Cor. 15:33.

What reminders would that be? Protect as individuals, all individuals?

Who needs to worry about the debauchery and pornography outside the congregation when it is in the congregation, including pedophiles. Bad associations in the congregation!

    *** w04 4/1 p. 13 par. 13 Resist the Spirit of a Changing World ***

The Bible wisely admonishes us: “Do not be misled. Bad associations spoil useful habits.” (1 Corinthians 15:33) Bad associations can involve anything or anyone—even within the congregation—reflecting the spirit of the world.

    *** w93 8/1 p. 16 par. 6 Let No One Spoil Your Useful Habits ***

Paul told them: “Do not be misled. Bad associations spoil useful habits.” The point of this counsel concerned those associated with the congregation who disagreed on the resurrection doctrine.

    20. What protection and guidance are available through the Christian congregation?

20 How can we demonstrate that we are really being “taught by Jehovah”? By carefully heeding his commands. (Isa. 54:13) In the safe haven of our congregations, we find needed guidance and protection, for it is there that faithful men who serve as elders provide Scriptural help and counsel. (Gal. 6:1) Much of Jehovah’s tender care reaches us through these “gifts in men.” (Eph. 4:7, 8) How should we respond? Willing submission and obedience result in God’s blessing.—Heb. 13:17.

    Taught by Jesus?

    Congregations safe havens? Protected pedophiles?

So where in the bible does it say Christians cannot have beards?

    “gifts in men” or “princes”

    21. (a) We should be determined to do what? (b) What will be considered in the next article?

21 Let us be determined to be led by holy spirit and thus yield to the guidance of our heavenly Father. We also need to meditate on the life course of his Son, Jesus Christ, whose peerless example we strive to follow. For his obedience even to the point of death, Jesus received a rich reward. (Phil. 2:5-11) Like him, we will be blessed for trusting in Jehovah with all our heart. (Prov. 3:5, 6) So may we always look to Jehovah as the Provider and Protector beyond compare. What a joy and great privilege it is to serve him! Our love for him will grow as we reflect on the third aspect of our Father’s care for us—his friendship. The next article focuses on how Jehovah is our best Friend.

Led by holy spirit or men who say they are led by holy spirit? How did Moses prove he was sent by God? How do the elders feel they prove God is with them?

Remember Jesus said you would know his true followers (not Jehovah’s) by the love they showed.

    CONCLUDING COMMENTS

Ask the average jw if they should expect individual protection? Probably the same answer if you asked if Jesus’ is their mediator .

When do jws become God’s sons?

Next week, JEHOVAH, OUR BEST FRIEND.

    Love, Blondie.

    Thanks for the preview BLONDIE.

Attended the "special talk" and stayed for about half the WT.

My favorite part was a comment from someone's loose-cannon bible study, who related a lengthy experience about how praying in traffic saved her life in a terrible highway collision. YESSSSS!!!!

Of course, it met with the nervous titters of the congregation who were left confused as to what exactly the hell god is doing anyway.

Always refreshing to hear the voice of someone not completely brainwashed (yet) even if they are utterly incoherent.

LOL!! BOC, that's funny! Remember the song "Jesus take the wheel", all the JWs make fun of it. They essentially parrot the sentiments with their every breath. Irony.....

I am amazed at how obtuse the dubs are. They don't realize that the whole article boils down to a couple of paragraphs. Today, paragraph 20 and 21 were all that mattered. Everything else was fluff and speculation, leading to these two paragraphs.

So being taught by Jeehoober means the GB. How do we show that we are loyal to the GB/Corporation? Willing submission and obedience to the Elders. Duh!!

The next article focuses on how Jehovah is our best Friend.

So, what is the lesson? Well, Jeehoober = GB/Corporation and the hierarchy. Jesus was faithful to the death. Jws should be willing to die for the GB. Why, because they are our best friends.

Ha ha ha... anyone catch this in paragraph 2?

Or you may be one of the thousands who have come to learn the truth through the preaching activity of other servants of Jehovah.

What about the many times that Jehovah didn’t provide for and protect his worshipers?

One account in the Bible that comes to mind is in 1Sam 22:6-20. That’s the account where evil and bad-tempered King Saul has a wicked servant of his by the name of Doeg kill 85 priests simply because High Priest Ahimelech offered some hospitality to King Saul’s rival, David.

Doeg’s wicked deed didn’t stop there. He voluntarily then goes to the city, Nob, where Jehovah’s priests resided and he slaughters the men, women, children and livestock in that city....all innocent worshipers of Jehovah!

All these lives that were cut short! As often as I’ve read this account I’m always left wondering: Where was Jehovah’s protection of these worshipers of His?

It’s accounts like these that render meaningless WT’s attempt to paint ‘Jehovah’ as a Provider and Protector of his people!

Good catch, leaving_quietly. I wondered myself why "thousands" and not "millions." Is the WTS suggesting that most are relatives/children of jws rather than 1st generation?

JWGoneBad, remember the qualifying phrase "as a group." The WTS says that God only protects individuals that have a direct impact on the family line of the Messiah.

    *** w10 4/15 p. 8 par. 5 Holy Spirit’s Role in the Outworking of Jehovah’s Purpose ***

Jehovah used his spirit to protect individuals in the line of descent leading up to the Seed. To Abram (Abraham), Jehovah said: “I am a shield for you.” (Gen. 15:1)

Reconciliation with that beady-eyed monster joke-hova? This means either giving up your liberty for total enslavement, or die. Joke-hova is offended by anything that enhances the human experience, and to reconcile, one would have to totally renounce such. One would have to alter what we are, and that includes things such as our sexuality and many personal preference issues. We are not here just referring to quitting smoking or drugs. People have to give up their holidays, their freedom to worship as they see fit (and that could include researching whether they are even doing it right or just being misled), their sexuality, and most of their free time.

And for what? So they have a mere chance of survival, albeit in an enslaved and damned condition. That beady-eyed monster only promises salvation for the group. So that means I could pious-sneer from birth to death, give up everything I have, and it would only help the group survive without me. That is the terminus for communism--what it becomes when taken to the absolute extreme. I, for one, will not put in anything that only helps a group survive--I don't even get to pick or choose who I want that extra "salvation" to go toward. It just goes toward the whole group, and I am dogging it.

Not so funny, DD and BOC, that the GB has some 'splaining to do about how the young anointed on earth are going to get to heaven in time for the wedding without dying unnaturally and all at once...the rapture so to speak.
