In the Bible this word Elohim which means Gods is used more then any other word for god in the bible by far, infact most of the time were the word god is used its actually elohim. They excuse by many scholars that is used is that the jews really ment to use this word to magnify gods greatness and thats why its in the plural sence instead of the singular. But some say this doesnt make sence based on thier understanding of ancient Hebrew language. I have also read that the word is used because it as well as the other word YHWH really stands for the family of El, Y for El, H for his wife Asherah, W for the son possibly Baal Hadad, H for Anath.

I have as of yet not been able to confirm this and I am looking for any one, that has information about this subject. It seems odd to me that the word Elohim is used for god in the bible instead of the singular form the word EL. I have confirmed that before the Babylonian Exile that the worship of El, Baal, and Asherah was taking place infact the bible confirms this too.

This makes sense to me but there are some Hebrew linguists who get very upset with the Elohim as gods idea.
