    Hi everyone,

I'd like to share with you all a personal experience that I had recently.

I had told a freind about the U.N issue (J.W) and she said to let her know when I got my answer from the governing body about why they joined.

She asked about it, I did not bring it up, and I showed her their response (the standard explanation from Brooklyn which you have all seen.)

We then got into a very interesting conversation.

She agreed with me that the explanation was very unacceptable, she did not even try to argue it.

She even accepted that it was wrong of the W.T to do this - I was very surprised. We got into talking about the Governing Body, and my problems with it, and she surprised me further when she said that she does not believe that the Governing Body should be followed or held in as high regard as god or jesus.

She believes that god works through this organisation, but thinks that there are so many problems with J.W's never questioning their stands or logic. She believes that they have made many, many mistakes which the bible said this organisation was going to do. (where the scripture is for this I have no idea.)

In the end, she sais, she is in this organisation, because she feels that it is between her and god. In the end, anything that is man made does not really come into place with her relationship. She does not agree with many of the stringent rules involved in being a J.W.

When she was growing up whe was taught by her mother (also a J.W- but has now left, and is strongly opposed) to question everything, to think for ones self, always. She beleives in this, she says. She has come accross so much opposition in her time, that has only made her stronger. In the end, she sais, she only cares about god, and does not dwell so much on Jehovahs Witnesses as an organisation.

She completely understands why I do not continue to want to be a JW.

I thought this was incredibly cool and impressive, to come from the mouth of a JW - I respect her so much more for this stand and view she has taken. I have never come accross a Jw so diplomatic in my life, I told her, if only they were all like you.

It is so different to the opposition that I have come accross with my family over the U.N issue, it is met with yelling and anger and then refusal to talk about it. I so much more respect this reaction than any other I have ever heard, I told her she is one in a hundred J.W's and now, I totally accept her stand and beleifs.

If only all J.W's could be like this, make it a personal stand with themselves and god rather than the organisation.

I really respect this, it made such an impact on me that I really wanted to share it.

    A diamond in the rough.

That is awesome and very, very rare among JW's unfortunately.

Ah, you made the ultimate point though - that she was taught by her mother while growing up to question everything and think for oneself always. THAT is what has made her different.

The typical JW family does not encourage questioning and thinking, only obeying.

Kudos to your friend's mom for making a life saving difference in your friend :)

    hugs,

It's funny but I've heard a few say that the GB doesn't rule the roost in their lives. One sister I knew said that she cried when she read an article in a wt and KNEW it wasn't bible based....she defends Jah...but the gb is something else.

I feel strongly that the jw's have got a lot of things wrong in the past too...I only hope they now take steps to rectify that!

And yes...I too feel that the sting of shunning is too much to bear..it is counterproductive...who would want to return to an organisation who leaves them out in the cold when they've made an error...you need to guide and assist such ones NOT to make the same error again..you can't do that by pushing them away..only justifies what they did in their minds.

That sisters sounds like she's quite level headed....I'd like to meet a levelheaded jw.

It certainly is extremely refreshing to meet a level headed JW.

Let me ask you all one thing though - do you think her attitude would be approved of by elders and other authoritive figures in the organisation? I think not.

One thing you NEVER hear at meetings is "Think for yourself" - if someone says this, is is cause for counseling? Has anyone experienced any counseling on this matter?

My friend stated that she thinks it is ridiculous that most JW's believe that they will be the only ones to survive the great tribulation.

She also said I could talk to her about ANYTHING I have problems with, she does'nt care what it is. She also did not mention the words "apostate literature" once. (wow)

What are your thoughts on her opinion and how it wouldd be treated within the org?

    She sounds refreshingly open!

The elders would indeed frown on what she's doing. But she could always justify that she trying to 'reason' with you to bring you back to the fold...that will get them off her back.

I agree with her that others besides just dedicated jw's (face it there ain't any practicing every facet of the religion rigidly - so if God weren't merciful, we'd all perish) - dedicated jw's that committ some rather horrible acts...so if only jw's are to survive, I'm not sure I'm gunna like paradise!!!!!!!!

A JW friend of mine said she believed because of the UN issue and the sexual abuse issues Jah has taken his spirit away from the org. She also said if she experienced what the Silent Lambs experienced she would be DF'd too. She would not remain silent..hah she is a PR Lisa (LDH)

However it doesn't mean to her that it isn't the True religion. Hey she's in since 69' what do you expect...lol

I don't care what anyone says you never trust a JW or anybody in that mess of a place. Their home and mind wreckers, coved up by a name out of the bible now thats a sin. This cult is like one big famliy you get in but you can leave with a clear mind. The mistake some of you made was getting baptized, I did go that far,you got to think befoe getting in over your head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
