Well it was announced the other night that the new convention venue will be about a twenty hour drive away. In that 20 hours will include at least 3 hour boat ride. I'm guessing the cost of the boat ride + the cost of fuel would probably be about $US800 - $US 900. That wouldn't include the loss of wages for the 4 days just to get there and return. Your other option would be to fly. I was thinking if you were a solo mother with a couple of kids who was on a benefit allowance there is just no way you would be able to afford this. The silly thing about it is there is another convention which is only 4 hours away just up the road. I guess the society must of got a better deal with the one that was 20 hours away. So to hell with everyone weather you can afford it or not. This is just bloody ridiculous.
I believe I'm the record holder for travel distance to a convention

Record holder for your travel to a convention, I can tell by just that statement you are so much younger than I am.
In the 60's we always had to travel from NYC to either Washington Dc, Baltimore,Atlantic City, not until the 70's did they start having more close to NYC, although Yankee Stadium was always used when available for NY area, as well as Shea Stadium, Belmont and Acqudecut Racetracks

Boo Hoo Joe123.....you've got it easy....what about all those poor brothers and sisters we always heard about who had to wade through swamp infested Alligators...I mean Alligator infested swamps in order to attend the nearest convention? LOL !

Heres an idea, DO NOT GO. You will be happier for it.
Take the money and spend it on a nice time for yourself and
give some money to some poor single mom instead.

joe, that is just too much, especially in this financial climate. And if you are stuck, hmm, can you manufacture a crisis? oi! oi! oi!
When I was growing up, too, we had to travel far. Right up till the last int'l convention I attended (already faded a year by then) in,,, hmm, late 70s, I *think*. That was in Montreal, at the Olympic Stadium, which is about 800 miles. In the 60s, we went to Yankee Stadium in 62 or 63, about 900 miles (each way), which is 2 days' travel .. and then, sleeping in a tent, or billetted in someone's house (ugh) .. have to say, I was glad when I turned 16 and was making my own money, and could afford a good hotel room!
Ugh, the worst was Buffalo, New York. That's like, 1200 miles, and the stadium was in a dangerous neighbourhood, dirty dirty city. And hot as hell.
Well, some day, you will only enter stadiums, like I do now, for concerts and sporting events! There are better times to come, don't lose heart.

Village girl= I'm not going. Its almost been a year since I walked out. I thought making people travel at least one and a half times the length of the country just really unreasonable.

Hey Joe, almost a year since you walked out..
Seems like the WTS are making these folks go long distance on purpose... (laughing at them)
Down with the towers I say..
