Went to see this at the cinema last night and really enjoyed it. Suppose you either like sci fi or you don't but I thought it was an interesting plot well executed. Anyone else see it?

I haven't seen it, but the trailer looks intriguing!

Tom Cruise looks pretty good for 51, but he is really to old for these types of roles.

Mmm I know what you mean Oubliette but actually his age fits with the plot. He had either an advertising or a PR agency before the war with the aliens and was conscripted to be the PR man for the new army. So he has never seen action and is a raw recruit (forcibly as you will see). However he has the intelligence because he was an astute business man, to work out how to defeat the aliens and the muscle and fighting expertise is actually provided by Emily Blunt who trains him. Interesting plot.

Xanthippe, thanks for the explanation. It sounds like the story/role was written for Tom rather than the other way around!

    Tailor made.

We went to see it, we thought it was excellent. There was the right amount of action, comedy and romantic tension. I thought it would be too repetitive, but it was well balanced. Kate xx

My daughter is 21 and she thinks he's good looking in this film, so he had the desired effect it seems. Kate xx
