In a documentary on UK TV last night: (Born in the wild Series 1: Episode 2 Chanel 4) I learned more than I wanted to know about the marsupial reproductive system. I watched as an enthusiastic woman pulled out the plumbing from a road-kill female kangaroo showing her two (or was it three) vaginas and multiple oviducts.
I was enthralled as a man with a talent for inappropriate behaviour fondled an echidna until it demonstrated its four-branched enormous penis.
How cute the female koala looked as the nice man pleasured her with exactly the 42 strokes necessary to make her go cross-eyed and ovulate before artificially inseminating her.
Anyway, I can’t be the first to think that if these animals were created there was a bizarre sense of humour involved. I have not made a study of this area but I believe that these odd reproductive arrangements show a different evolutionary route “down under” than has occurred anywhere else on earth.
Is it really credible that the rich variety of mechanics all achieving the same end came from the same drawing board? What do you think?
