    1 Corinthians 13:8 - Love never fails...

I've always thought it meant that where love once existed it will always exist, always be felt no matter what happens. The last few years have forced me to abandon that understanding in favor of new light.

Now I'm thinking: Love never fails to be the appropriate way to handle any given situation. Behaving lovingly toward someone you have no particular feelings for one way or another.

How do you understand this scripture?

I would go along with that.

Somehow I don't think we'd be able to attract quite as many followers as the Watchtower though, despite it being new light and all.

The writer could not have meant that 'love' applied in any situation would achieve any goal, for it does not, but

as a tool for nourishing children in a family setting, for example, it works wonders, and will continue to be passed on without fail.

    will do.

What I know about love is... it can be destroyed/killed. And that's not in the Bible.

Love never fails for the person showing love. It only depends on one person. Love is not something that depends on reciprocation. If we show love to others, we ourselves are never failed for that. It may not be returned, but that doesn't mean it failed.

just pondering your question " love never fails......" well if " love never fails, then can love ever end?"

For if love is to end has it not ended in failure and failed.
