Okay guys, I wish I could have posted this earlier, but unfortunately, I didn't have the time. Anyway, as I've told you in my previous post, Thursday, before reacting the convention site we visited a family of "apostates" from a group which separated itselft from the borg but is still doing the same dumb old shit the borg did many decades ago. Anyway, now let's talk about the convention in itself. I can't remember much about the convention because I spent every single moment sitting next to a friend who doesn't buy the bullshit either. So during the entire convention we just sat there and just made fun of the hilariously ridiculous things the speakers were saying. Right from the start I've immediately noticed some things different from last year. Now we had a roof on the outside too (I wonder how the cheap bastard decided to finally invest the money in such a thing) but it was still pretty bad. Also, compared to last year, they've placed a screen outside too.

While in previous year we just had the convention title displayed on the big screen/s and on the stage, now we had the title with some picture of Anthony Morris The Turd and some other GB members. It looks like they're seriously pushing themselves more and more on the front covers of anything JW and creating more of a personality cult. On Friday there was a big speech about the fact that it's been 100 years since 1914, 100 years of the wonderful reign of Jesus. They compared Satan's world acomplishments with those of Jesus' kingdom. One hilarious statement that remained in my mind sounded something like: "Sure when it comes to technology Satan's world has acomplished many great things in the past century, but, they're NOTHING compared to the things acomplished by the followers of Jesus. Acomplishements like The Photodrama of Creation and the JW.Org website." This is when I burst out loud in laughter and had to pretend I was coughing just not get kicked out.

I mean seriously? Diseases have been eradicated, we perfected car and air travel, electrification, people have been into space, computing boomed, the internet, television, radio, immensely better healthcare, nuclear power, advanced architecture, robotics, etc - but this is NOTHING compared to a photodrama and a website. This is the most ridiculous thing said at this convention. Around the same time as this ridiculous talk there was also shown a short clip with a montage of the most awful things in the world (which is Satan's world, of course) and contrasted with a montage of a JW paradise utopia, all with emotional music on the background. Almost everyone started crying. It was both ridiculous and creepy at the same time. It was such obvious emotional manipulation but they fell for it in an instant.

Then there was the afternoon drama. Three in total this year. The Friday afternoon drama has about a guy taking a personal loan from a brother who was a bank manager(wonder how we got that job without a college degree). Of course they eventually argue, there's a lot of stupid bickering going on and everything works out fine in the end. It was uninspiring, barely had a plot and seemed to bore everyone. As it's customary in Romania, instead of going to a hotel like normal people, we were hosted by a family of brothers who live nearby the convention hall. So, at the end of the day, when finally the torture ended and we got to their house, we had the pleasure to be invited to attend with them their regular Friday meeting at the hall. Of course the pious members of my family were overjoyed by the invitation, and me being the driver had no excuse and had to attend. So oh joy, spending almost 12 hours of brainwashing in a single way. Anyway, there were also some good things about this convention, things I'll tell you about in a future post.

Thanks for your summary. I do remember them mentioning the photo drama of creation...but not in a comparison, as in vs. what the world has done. Had that wording been used I'm sure I would have caught something that ridiculous. Maybe in the Romanian outline the speaker got a little creative, or just worded it differently.

Yes, the videos are designed to pull at our emotions...I think from the WT standpoint, that addition is a stroke of mind maniputaing genious. Images combined with music work 1000% better than some old goat reading off of an outline. The emotion sticks with a person too.

It is strange that they had a meeting on the friday of the convention. That is definately not done in the U.S. Maybe that was just a local thing that they did for whatever reason. Strange! And sorry you had to deal with that after sitting through 5+ hrs of rahat !! ;-)

    PS. Your english is excellent!

Ha, that's awful, having to go to a meeting after a convention. Your family members are a bit... um, over the top, to want to go to that after an assembly day. I'm guessing that congregation wasn't assigned to that convention, and that's why they had a meeting that night?

Tresdecu, Apognophos - Thanks guys! Mr. Apog you got it right. The family we were hosted by, were only supposed to have their convention three weeks after us.

Nope, tresdecu. This comparison was part of the outline. Not kidding.
