My relative asked me a question today of why half the witnesses in this country had to travel to the opposite end of the country to attend a convention, when in some areas it would of been closer to attend a convention that was only 3.5 hours up the road. I replied by saying the society could be getting some sort of benefits if they can prove they can bring x amount of dollars into the city. She replied by saying they would never do that. I just had to bite my tongue and walked away.
Interesting talk with an uber dub relative today

I once wondered out loud why the same congs were got together for conventions when to mix them up north/south country/city would be a good thing.
Silly me.

Haha got to laugh when you say just three and a half hours up the road. I take it you are not in the UK where two hour travelling would be quite enough

90 MINUTES DRIVE IS TOO MUCH IN THE UK!

There are newspaper articles that feature prominent brothers being used in the manner you described. I remember posting an article on another site about this. It directly mentioned that JW conventions were going to generate revenue for the host city. I believe the article was about a convention in California.

You UK brothers - shame on you!
I used to know JWs in Shetland and Orkney - to get to the assembly require a 14 hour ferry crossing before a drive to the venue. :) -

Surprising that your friend would dare ask why the organization does something...

In Australia, this year we have to travel between 9 to 16 hours by car to get to the convention on the east coast!
