did anyone ever get somatic pain when they would get ready for meeting? I would get horrible middle back pain that would sometimes flare but would always flare when I was getting ready for meeting.

I used to get very depressed coupled with pain around the kidney region[this was a precursor to full blown deep dark depression which cut me down for 30 months or so ]Depression stopped when I stopped attending. And un-eldered myself.
btw depression is now huge in the congos especially elders [and their families]

I would just get very, very tired. I think the depression is a natural result and being in a cult. We were told many times that we were in a spiritual paradise, that we were "Jehovah happy people", that the new system was coming any time now. Those things are so far removed from the reality of JW life it created cognitive dissonance. This sets up a situation where you cannot acknowledge your true feelings, because that would force you to admit you made a mistake and were in the wrong religion and needed to do something about it. These kind of repressed thoughts and emotions tend to be cause physical pain.
