The wife got back from the meeting last night and told me they watched some video from jw.org about persection in Russia. Lots of discussion at the hall about Poland being next after Ukraine. She told me she was not going to sign anything renouncing her faith even if she had to go to prison. I told her I would have no problem signing it if asked. I wasn't interested in going to prison and somebody needs to take care of the dogs. She wasn't amused.

I also tried to tell her that perhaps she wasn't getting a little bit worked up about this and she probably had nothing to worry about for the forseeable future. But she would have none of it. They apparently like to play up the drama of being a persecuted people = proof that they have the truth.

Tell your wife that the Watchtower doesn't have a good track record of correct predictions when it comes to world events. I highly doubt Russia would attempt to invade or destabilize Poland. Plus the average Witness is certainly no expert concerning international news. That film is just another example of the Organization inducing fear in order to keep the sheep under firm control. Ask your wife to name even ONE correct prediction they have made regarding world events.

Poland is an EU state. The EU won't let it come to that.

Exaggerated claims of persecution are very good at manipulating people into feelings,of loyalty and commitment. While many were manipulated into throwing their life away rather than buy a political card, the WTBTS joined a political organization (UN). I guess that loyalty is only for the rank and file.

Is this a topic about PERSECUTION in Russia, Poland? Whenever conflict is inflicted on a state, they gather the young to fight and JWs will be targeted because of the draft resist. --or is it

About Russia on the March? -- V. Putin wants to RESTORE Russia's sphere of influence.-- right: SPHERE,-- like the globe.

Our family story in this: At the end of WW2, Russia (CCP) shifted populations , unethical ethnic cleansing, contrary to UN charter, WESTWARD.

Some Russians in east Ukraine (or the baltics) complain that they have been there 60 + years, and now are feeling the heat. Settled there. Yes, family were ousted from that area and resettled west, so were Polish people in their territory, so were the Germans. Here is the family connection in this:

On a visit with her husband of Ukraininian lineage to her childhood home town, now in northern Poland, formerly 350 km inside Germany, from which she was expelled in 1945, my sister discovered, that family of her husband the Ukrainian, have been resettled there, 1 700 km to the west from their Ukrainian roots.--- At least some of the properties stayed in the family through marriage and happenstance like that.

So figure: this was the Russians on the roll in 1945, and they are rolling again. the difference?

this time there will not be, hopefully, indifference,

but suffering nevertheless, sadly, whenever there is agression, in whatever direction.

@NT: I don't think this was a case of the WTBATS predicting the future. It was just local friends extrapolating as to their response in a similar situation.

@Others: regarding Russia invading anyone, I don't think it will happen. Why bother? They just have to sit back and watch the west implode. It could get interesting if for some reason the gas flowing west gets cut off this winter. I have plenty of firewood stacked, so not an issue of freezing to death for me.

I was going with the idea expressed by LisaRose - using the incident for manipulation of rank and file.

Nonsense comparison. Poland is EU member and vital ally of USA and one the most important state in NATO. Polish society went through deep liberalization process where religion plays lesser role than it did 20-30 years ago. Younger population is generally secular mirroring trends in Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Baltics. There is no whatsoever demand nor need for suppressing JW faith there as freedom of religion is guaranteed by constitution. Russia and Poland are two opposite countries, where Poland is significant roadblock for Russian expansion westward. Russia is turning into totalitarian state, and will immitate recreation of USSR whatever cost. JWs and other non-traditional churches in Russia facing persecution for a while, but again comparing Poland and Russia requires really crazy mind.

Prologos, yes, Russia is on march and if they will not stop, they will be marching westward. However, they did not expect Ukraine to put a fight and defend its country rom invasion.

A sister at our assembly today said those exact words, that persecution proved to her that it was the right religion. I was thinking "does that mean then, that whatever brand of Christianity is being beheaded by ISIS is the right religion too? "
