“This is an organization that has an apocalyptic end-of-days strategic vision that will eventually have to be defeated,” General Martin E. Dempsey, U.S. chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said on Thursday.

He sounds like he's talking about JWs. But he's actually referring to ISIS. Anyhow, an apocalyptic world view is unhealthy for members of any organization. ISIS is fanatical, thus they are exceptionally dangerous. Thankfully, a large percentage of JWs don't take the apocalyptic message seriously. But the ones who do cause tremendous damage.

One thing I find interesting is that those with apocalyptic world views often tout their high morals while missing out on the most important thing, love. ISIS and other fundamentalist groups kill those who don't live up to their moral views. JWs harshly disfellowship, kill spiritually and emotionally. If JWs were told to stone wrongdoers there's no doubt that many would. Though Jehovah killed many people in the Bible for what seems like trivial stuff, Jesus never killed a single person, even for far worse crimes. apocalyptic cults appear to forget that and instead believe everyone should be killed or punished for their sins.

That's really interesting. I can see the government stamp out all religious elements that show a hatred towards others. They seem to use that Extremist word. The Arab world are trying to appear that they don't condone the ISIS Extremist view

    Good post, like it.

Religous fanaticism is so destructive and pointless.

JWs, like Warren Jeffs’ fundamentalist Mormon sect, the Scientologists, David Koresh’s Branch Dividians, Jim Jones’ Peoples Temple, Marshall Applewhite’s Heaven’s Gate, . . . ISIS, . . . are all fanatical and extremist, to be quite sure. It’s really just a matter of degree.

You would not be alive to tell your story of woe were JWs actually like ISIS.

It shows how little the human race has advanced from the time of the inquisition that organisations like ISIS exist and are thriving.

Killing and massacring on account of some poppycock written 1,400 years ago by an ignorant, unscientific, desert-dwelling hermit who had mystical visions sitting in a cave.

Human beings really are quite stupid.

“yadda yadda 2”: “Human beings really are quite stupid.”

That’s for sure! It’s like the saying goes, “There’s a sucker born every minute.” People get sucked into joining the bandwagon of hatred and genocide in which they act far worse than any neighborhood dog. That’s right. From my observations, any dogs in the park I have ever seen act far more courteous and civilized than people drugged out on religious politics.

People like to think they are 'special' or that they live in 'special times'.

Religions will always be there to capitalize on these weak links. Extracting money and labor from such people will go on for a long time.

It will probably take thousands if not hundreds of thousands of years for evolution to remove such delusion.

It seems like ISIS are one more in a long history of fanatical splinter groups from mainstream Islam and have also pitted themselves against other splinter groups like Al Qaeda, who consider them an enemy.

Maybe ISIS itself will splinter - it's not uncommon for in-fighting within these groups to happen when there is disagreement. The situation is already very messy, with fighting between so many sides, but I can see it getting even worse if more splinter groups set themselves against each other.

kneehighmiah: "...an apocalyptic worldview is unhealthy..."

It's quite the paradigm shift when one really realizes that for the first time.
