    Hi,

I have a question about the whitehouse web logo. I've only seen it on witehouse webvideos out of the wh.org website. It looks VERY much like a logo we all know.

A picture of mr. Obama with the logo in the upper right corner taken drom a webvideo out of wh.org:

    Who used it first?

    Your thoughts on this?

That is creepy. It would be great if the WH.org logo is used widely, it would confuse the public no end.

Just watch a video clip on the wh.gov webpage. The logo is there in the upper right corner. I havn't seen the logo in other places though, looks like a tv logo for the wh.gov videos.

    Take a look at:

Who used the design of the logo first? The Whitehouse or the Gov. body?

I'm sorry, but that's pretty much a no-brainer design choice.

    - The square is the most obvious choice of shape in which to contain text.

    - Blue is used for everything these days, as it's easy to see and calming, and the government is no exception to this design trend.

    - The division of the domain name from the domain suffix is likewise obvious. It's following the rule of maximum readability, breaking text into a square-like shape rather than a single string. The traditional suffixes, .com, .net, .gov, and .org, are all three letters by design, so it's not surprising that two short URLs would end up looking the same.

    - Finally, one difference is that the JW logo uses a simple, sans-serif font and the White House uses a distinguished looking serif font.

I also found this thread about the logo being denied by the Patent and Tradmark Office, it's hard to patent a logo and anyome can probably use a logo that looks similar:
