I ran across an interesting disclaimer in the June 8, 2002 Awake. There is an article in there titled "Let's have a Hawaiian Luau." The first paragraph says that "millions of visitors come to Hawaii to...take part in our world famous luau, or Hawaiian feast.*"
The asterisk is followed, at the bottom of the page, by the following disclaimer: "Although the luau may originally have had some connection with false religious practices, the word has simply come to refer to a Hawaiian banquet. Many Christians may therefore conscientiously feel that they can participate."

Do you think that we will see the same disclaimer in this years issue about Christmas?

An article on the internet says, "In early Hawaii, it was the custom of its people to celebrate auspicious occasions with a feast. Whether it was the birth of a child, a victorious war, a successful harvest or the completion of a new home or canoe, the Hawaiians took time to honor their many Gods and to share their bounty with friends and family."

    Hello TheRedPill,

thanks for the excellent piece of information
and the research which clearly shows the usual..double tongue
    from the WTBS Inc.!

Of course there is a need to know the other part of
the information...which the WTBS Inc. did not provide, but
now, we have received from you.

I can assure you that I'm going to use it, within the next
hours. Thanks again for your time and effort,

    greetings J.C.MacHislopp

I wonder if native Hawaiians would agree that the word has come to mean simply a banquet?

Right...... this stuff always ticks me off.

But if luaus had their roots in "paganism" but no longer carry any thoughts of being pagan, then whats wrong with Christmas and birthdays?

Wedding rings, bridal veils, bridesmaids dresses all had their roots in paganism as well, but I tell ya, I have yet to see a JW bride wearing a red dress and foregoing that diamond ring!!!

    RedPill,

I particularly liked this bit -

Our attention is drawn to a steaming mound of dirt away from the dining area. We observe several husky men wearing loincloths
    (4th para)

Clearly….a woman wrote this article! LOL

Latte...who's off to Hawaii next holiday!
