Killeen police released a sketch Friday of a man they said may be a witness in the shooting death of a 64-year-old Killeen school bus driver earlier this week.
“This person was seen in the area during the early morning hours and possibly has information that is pertinent to this case,” according to a Killeen police statement released with the sketch Friday afternoon.
Christine Watkins, a mother of three and grandmother of 13, was found shot to death in the driveway of her home on Pine Drive early Monday. She had been a Killeen Independent School District bus driver for more than 30 years.
Mercedes Wesley, a Killeen ISD employee who worked with Watkins, said many district staff decorated Watkins’ bus in black ribbons Friday in her memory.
“I just thought you should know she was well loved by many, and will truly be missed,” Wesley wrote in an email to the Herald on Friday. “I pray her killer is found and brought to justice.”
Earlier this week, Killeen detectives were seen canvassing Pine Drive and speaking with residents.
As of Friday, no suspect in Watkins’ death was identified. Detectives investigating the shooting are asking anyone who can identify the man in the sketch or who has any other information about Watkins’ death to call 254-501-8936.
A funeral for Watkins, who lived on Pine Drive with her husband, Kenneth, since the 1970s, will take place at 1 p.m. today at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Killeen
