Unlike most Nano's I'm going to try to finish a novel instead of starting it, but the basic goal - writing 50,000 words in 30 days - remains the same. I have about half of a science fiction/military action novel I've been fooling around with for about a year. I'm going to finish the thing and try hard to get something published.

Not familiar with the Nano thing just wishing you good luck on your endeavor!

Self publish or send it out to be published?

"."Sci-fi military novel....try hard to get it published.." Thats what L.Ron Hubbard said. Scientology anyone.

    @ Hey There

Buddy me if you want. Jeff Thomas, the title of the book is "With Our Backs to the Wall." I'm going to put an introduction in the sci fi section some time today.

About 8 years ago, I did the NanoWrimo and succeeded in finishing a book.

The book was awful, but there was more to the exercise than dropping a turd.

The proper definition of an Author is one who FINISHES writing their book.

NanoWrimo was a self-demonstration I "could" be an Author.

I junked that first effort (thank God) and later rewrote it. You see, I had cleaned out my mental pipes.

I now "saw" it clearly. I knew what I DIDN'T want to say because I had said the obvious already.

In my opinion, NanoWrimo can unleash good habits (writing a certain amount daily.)

Once you acquire the unshakeable habit of writing every single day without fail--you CAN develop your

capacity into something readable. Maybe . . .

To me, learning to edit out

mistakes is the largest part of being a writer.

Learning to remove what is unecessary is the greatest talent.

The bottom line is this: stop threatening to write your book, and BY GOD do it!

    Then, edit it.

    Then, rewrite it.

    Then edit it.

    Then, rewrite it.

How do you know when to stop?

When you cannot find sentence in your work which cannot be removed,

    you are

    probably there.
