Not tonight. Dateline's on!
Tomorrow, take an afternoon off of work and go catch Star Wars ep. 2.
I did that yesterday and it was AWESOME!
I told some friends before ep2 came out that it would be the best of the new trilogy, like Empire Strikes Back was the best of the old trilogy.
Well, it was. Dark but with some humor, good story, and it was not a completely happy ending.
The best part of the movie to me was Yoda and Count Dooku's lightsaber battle. The whole movie, Yoda hobbles around on his little cane. I had heard from someone that "Yoda kicks some ass in the movie" so I figured maybe a Force battle. Well, that he did. But then he opened his coat, the lightsaber flies to his hand, and IT'S ON!
To me that was the payoff of the flick, but also a letdown because he didn't shred Dooku. Should have at least took an arm or hand, since that seems to be a trademark of Lucas.
The other thing that made this movie better for me is that Lucas didn't try to lay another pussy Darth on us. (for those of you who don't know: Darth is not a name, it's a title for both a Sith lord and Sith apprentice) Sorry, but Darth Maul sucked. Palpatine must have hired him from Sith-Temps-R-Us. Let me say it again, DARTH MAUL SUCKED! Vader could have kicked his ass with both hands tied behind his back. And would have, rightfully so for Vader doesn't tolerate PUSSIES!
Count Dooku, on the other hand, should have been the Darth of ep.1 and survived for ep.2. It would have been pretty cool to see either Jack Nicholson or Sean Connery play Dooku. Furthermore, it would have made one hell of a fight in ep.3 for Anakin/Vader to fight Dooku to become a Sith Lord.
Also nice to see Samuel L. Jackson get some real screen time in ep.2 instead of his brief time in ep.1. Jackson really added a lot to the movie. Hopefully Lucas has Mace Windu exit in ep.3 in a way worthy of Jackson!
All in all, I was much more pleased with this one than ep.1. Lucas said that the last one will be a very dark one, and may alienate some fans. Not this fan, George!
I'd love to see him do 7, 8, and 9 as originally envisioned. Be nice to see Harrison Ford beside Chewie on the Falcon one last time, but the way Lucas is moving it would probably be in the old folks home instead.
Mike.
