If you live in an area known for crime and violence or if you have to travel to such a place, do not attract attention to yourself by appearing to be affluent. Think carefully about what you wear and carry in public, especially if your possessions would be noticed.
It is good advice and advice you will find anywhere, we try do this when we travel to third world countries, looking more like backpackers. We can't do anything about speaking and looking like a local though.
What is annoying about the Awake comment is that they have taken the scripture out of context. The bible is discussing individuals who are in reality poor, not ones who appear to be.

Interesting. The German title is "Was macht die Bibel zeitlos?", that is, "Why is the Bible timeless?"
It just states that the Bible IS relevant today, the question is only WHY.
