Awake 1980 12/8 p.11 "Since the release of "the Exorcist" some years ago MANY reports are on file (at Bethel no doubt) of adverse effects it had on many...Mureen was an atheist who saw the film..."I could feel something happening to me....there was something in my house as I could feel it with me whereever I went..." Mureen studied with local Witnesses and was cured. Awake 1980 7/22 p.31 "Excorsist 2 was shown recently on T.V. A mother and daughter from Whitchita falls Texas watched it together. One scene shows the cutting out of a girls heart to get rid of the demon. The girl was found murdered in the same way. Her mother was charged with her homicide..." Great advice. Millions have seen these films with no demon apocalipse taking place.

Witness My Fury
I grew up terrified of the demons and the occult due to the indoctrination of being a born in JW. When I quit 4 or 5 years ago I forced myself to watch The Exorcist, it was so silly it was funny.
The Watchtower exits in a vacuum of dumbness, where anecdotes (often made up) are used as evidence for whatever line they want to sell at the time. Why is college frowned on? probably because if the young get an education they will more likely wake up to the bullshit.

The Exorcist was a I film I avoided throughout my JW days, I was too scared to watch. Soon after we were DF'd Nugget and I decided to to be rebellious and view it...........What a disappointment - most the film is peole talking around a table drinking coffee.
The truth is French and Saunders spoof is more scary :-)

TV Triggers Terror
◆ When the motion picture about demon possession “Exorcist II” was shown recently on U.S. television, a mother and her four-year-old daughter in Wichita Falls, Texas, reportedly watched it together. One scene is said to depict the cutting out of a girl’s heart to get rid of a demon. The little Texas girl was later found murdered in the same fashion. Her mother was charged with the homicide.
(This is a news account the WTS lifted but failed to give an attribution)
The quotes on the other one mentions a St Christopher medal, not a jw belief.
I find that some jws get the personal attention they want by claiming demon trouble....

I recall when I saw The Exorcist on TV many years ago I reacted with great guffaws of laughter at the girl's deep slow-motion voice during the central exorcism scene ( provided by the chain-smoking Mercedes McCambrige, a former "star" from 1950s B grade movies). This illustrates the power of one's beliefs and fear when people react to things.
Primed humans are fair game for being duped by almost anything - as happens when ignorant people even consider card tricks and illusionist performances to be products of the supernatural. When it comes to being "possessed", ignorance is absolutely essential - you need as few active brain cells as possible.

I haven't seen The Exorcist, but The Shining was hilarious.
