in my quest to always understand why jws get so f%$@ed up (yes oubliette, lets review lol) I discovered something today. In speaking with one of my fellow heathen friends from this site I was talking about Maslov's Hierarchy of Needs in an unrelated subject but I had an epiphany. Witnesses are held at the third level and never make it to the oh so critical top two sections. Take a look. The idea is once one level is takem care of you can realize the next. I believe they are stuck in level three and they even have that twisted.

I think they would disagree with you and say, "I''ve acheived a lot of things! I was a bethelite! I'm an elder! I respect others, that's why I go in service! I'm moral! I'm a JW artist so I'm creative! I know how to solve problems...use the Bible! I'm not prejudiced! I have plenty of black friends in the truth! I accept the facts...it's a sacred secret! -

Yep...I suspect this is a large part of how cults control people - keep them from getting comfortable enough that they feel like they can reach out to satisfy their needs on a higher level. For me, it wasn't until my life had settled down significantly and my other needs were met that my discomfort with the cult was a big enough problem that I felt like I needed to do something about it (and at the same time, I felt safe enough to do something about it). -

I believe the ones that can rise up the hierarchy will eventually see the organization for what it is and how it does nothing. Its not magic, its not the source of morality, its not actually improving a damn thing. -

Freeemind...you could even say many are stuck on the second level. Security of family? Employment?
Family can be taken away from you based on decisions by elders. Many are unemployed/underemployed based on 'putting the kingdom first.'

True, and its interesting to see morality in two places, I think this shows the difference between extrinsic morals and true internal moral behavior of the self aware over indoctrination and institutional morals -

So true.
The ones that do make it to the fourth level usually leave at some point. Most struggle to maintain the second level, and hope for the third.
"Acceptance of facts" is the big actualization factor, that the rest of this level pretty much hinges on, so if someone at the cusp of leaving does so because of this reason, they are not too far off from achieving self-actualization at some level.
Btw, Maslow never suggested that one level must become "fully" realized to advance to the next. The idea is to become "mostly" realized at any given level, before one can "care" enough to advance to the next. This also explains very elegantly why many cannot see TTATT, despite intelligence.

I think you're being generous to assume they made it to the third level.....
