Like the Civil Rights Movement

The struggle to push the Watchtower Society into making ethical
reform is rather like the Civil Rights movement.

You have people protesting and getting persecuted by cruel
    authorities. Reaction?

Some people start saying "Why should they beat up people
who just want the same stuff we do - nice jobs, nice houses,
equality under law? Change is needed"

Others said "these people are communist inspired (apostasy!)
and law breakers. They are evil and should be lynched."

This exposed suffering gets people to wake up and examine
their consciences. Imagine how hellish and vile life in the
U.S. would be if the Civil Rights movement failed!

The organization has been losing capable, caring brothers
for years. If you doubt this, just look at how inept and careless
their reaction to Dateline was - with almost a year to prepare
    for it.

Since the ball is now in the Society's court, it will be interesting
to see their collective reaction. I'm betting on a two-pronged
plan to repress dissent while simultaneously shedding some
of the more obnoxious aspects of Witness life.

That or stonewalling. Yeah, stonewalling is my bet; they have already started stonewalling with the letter read at the SM this week.

I gotta wonder if the great theocrats ever put two and two
together and realize what a burden/liability this private
judicial system puts on them. In elder's school, they spend
so much time and effort teaching 'unskilled volunteers' to
act as judges ( a blasphemy they never awake to see).
Real shepherding of the flock gets little attention, by contrast.

In the Catholic church, the controversy is about priests
molesting. In watchtowerland, it's about Joe Ordinary Witness
molesting and the elders covering it up. If they could let
go of this disfellowshipping obsession and dump judicial
committees entirely, they could rid themselves of a huge legal
burden and entanglements. It's their knowledge of evil and
refusal to handle it properly that led directly to this mess.

I guess they can't let go of their 'keeping the congregation
clean' mythology - while most every Witness teenager leads
    a 'double life'!

I think all but a handful of witnesses in each congregation lead a double-life by witness standards.

Even the "strong" ones have their little secrets. All you have to do is spend a Saturday afternoon in a cargroup and you'll find out just by the conversations what goes on.

Having a "clean" organization is a myth and even the dubs know it. The problem is they don't ACKNOWLEDGE it.
