Man. I work in downtown Fort Worth, Texas, and i went out for lunch today (Benigan's to be exact). When I finished my lunch and was walking back to my office...lo and behold....WITNESSES ....WITH THEIR LITTLE BLUE TAGS.....EVERYWHERE!

i hate this time of year. at least i can be grateful that it's only on Fridays that they'll disrupt downtown. In the old days, it started on WEDNESDAYS.

i did take the opportunity to LOUDLY explain to my friends (making sure my most offensive words would coincide with another JW group walking by) that these were the herds on their lunch break from their all-day brainwashing sessions.

Hey. Noticed something different this year. Witnesses have set up an "information table" in the local hotel lobby....where you can walk up and get free literature (eeek....watchtowers!) and sign up for more information. Are others doing this too? They didn't do this while i was a witness. I almost walked up to the table thinking it was a good-ol' apostates table, till i saw the banner saying "Would you like to live in paradise?"

    ugh. there goes my lunch.

Are they having their District Convention right now?

I live in Irving and yesterday I tried to attend the service meeting (to record the letter being read) only to find the KH empty.

If they are, where is it being held???

    A convention? Of JWs?

It's enough to make an old libertine like me burst into tears of nostalgia.

You can bet your last two cents that there's more people playing "Hide the Weenie" absent the benefit of clergy than you can count.

And here I am. An old fart. Past my prime. Invisible to nubile women.

    But I have my memories.

HAS THIS EVER HAPPENED TO ANYBODY . . . ?

They don' have their summer assemblies in Detroit, anymore (although the Silverdome stadium where they do is no longer the home of the Lions. But, in any case you can always spot the "regular" people in field service -- even when there's a lot of other non-JWs around them. "HERD" is a good fit, nativenyr23. 'cause they look like a pack of "delegates" to some surreal "Lucy Convention"

Although, here, many of them have gotten out of the "Street Walker" mode. [8>] That's given way to the ever-popular "DRIVE-BY WATCHTOWER HIT"

Say you're standing by the curb -- maybe waiting for the bus. You spot this car on the opposite side of the street. As it passes your location it does a sudden U-turn and races toward the curb near where you are standing. You observe that the window is winding down, and notice a hand extending out of the window. You think to yourself, "THIS IS IT!" and just when you are about to dive for cover you notice the cover . . . of the WT magazine in the passenger's hand.

Shaken, all you can really do is shake your head, "No!"

Yes, it's the convention. ugh...and it's at the Tarrant County Convention Center. My favorites are, however, the ones that take their name badges off and think they'll blend in with the NORMAL people! lol! heheee....

So...anybody wanna organize some apostate fun in front of the convention center w/me? heheheheee.....

It would be fun to eat somewhere downtown tonight, see all my old friends trying to give a good witness. See them fail, as witnesses mostly do at that endevour. Damn customary tip!

We could stand around downtown, and when an elder looking type walks by, dramatically recoil in horror, wrapping arms around our children protectively, "Stay away from my children you sick perv!". lol, oh the fun.

I imagine that much fewer witnesses will be wearing their badges around town tonight than last year. They probably don't feel like advertising tonight.

Do you remember those summer days? Remember assembly food? The best thing on the elaborate, gourmet menu was the cheese danish! Eating one of those was the highlight of my experience there. I actually know of an ex-JW who tried to find out who and where you could get assembly danishes...She found out Sarah Lee quit making them...

Now I heard there's no more food being served there... those poor kids...What do they have to look forward to?

Man, weren't those cheese danishes the absolute best? That used to be the only thing worth looking forward to about the assembly. We also used to get Krispy Kreme donuts before the morning sessions...can still remember sitting there as an eight year old eating donuts and drinking coffee. LOL!
