I used to pioneer with a lady that was in her fifty's, brought up in the 'truth' and one of her boasts was that through the efforts of her mother, over a hundred people had been brought in. Over a period of time she revealed many things that had gone on within the organisation one of them being a case of sexual abuse by a special pioneer that had been sent to the area. His victims were the young boys of a lady that was kind enough to give him a room to stay. During the course of his stay, he added many locks and bolts to the door of his room. Just how he was found out was not divulged to me, but he was caught and arrested by the police and infact went on to serve a prison term. Yet on the many occasions that she spoke of this matter, she would always add how pleased she was that it had been kept out of the newspapers! I think she was under the impression that Jehovah had somehow divinely protected the congregation from any scandal and her main concern appeared to be how the 'preaching work' would have been affected had the story got out! Since i've dared to use the internet, I realise just how common a problem this is, and that the attitude of the average jw seems to be more concerned as to how they appear to the outside world rather than where it should be ie with the victims and the bringing to justice of these vile and evil men.

You're absolutely right! The "concern" has never been for the effects of the victims, but HOW the congregation would be effected and the "reproach" it would bring on Jehovah's name. Well, 25 years later, this still pisses me off! According to my mother, "the truth will fix it," therefore, my father never got any help, the elders were never told and she stayed with the $#^%*! He is a JW in good standing and is a ministerial servant at this time and he has the ordasity to "shun" me because of an act of infidelity that I was DF'd for! Make any sense to you? It doesn't to me!!

I had a similar experience:
Last year, a JW man in my city was sentenced to prison for misusing his wife's 10 year old daughter (from a previous marriage). The case was discovered by the family's neighbours, because the little girl flew from her home in the middle of the night, wearing just her panties. The case was a top story in the local newspapers.
A few months later, I met an old friend of mine. She was skiing with her family and that 10-year old girl, the victim of the molestation, was their guest. After the children had left us for the cabin, my old friend talked briefly about the tragedy. I was quite stunned when she concluded with these words: "Ohhh! This is sooo harmful for the Truth!" Not a single word about the injures on the little girl in her company.

Hi Bay64: Your account is very typical of the types of child abuse problems that have been going on among the JWs for a long time ... When I first became a JW in the late 1960s I heard of these stories, but always in the light of how Jehovah exposed the problem. In the early years, it never occured to me just how widespread and prevalent this problem is among the JWs. ... that is ... until I became an Elder.
A year ago in June/July we conducted a Poll on JWd and found that many knew of several pedophiles ... and because the response was large enough, I was able to extrapoliate this out to calculate about 1 JW pedophile for every 2 JW congregatons ... about 5,500 JW molesters in the USA ... and this is somewhat validated by the information that SilentLambs received that over 23,000 JW molesters are 'known' to the Watchtower Society (worldwide I presume) ... The USA being the largest group of JWs, and more corrupt as western nations go, would likely have a corresponding number of JW pedophiles ...
If the Watchtower religion was not a Pedophile Paradise, then these numbers would be significantly lower ... and there would be no case to take before the media ... but now they know that we know that they know they are a Pedophile Paradise.
