Visit from parents today

My dad gave a talk in Monticello today, so since Macon is on their way home he and Mom stopped by for a visit.

No mention of "coming back" or anything JW-related, but Mom did give me a copy of the New World Translation. So I've got a [version of the] Bible now. Previously she had asked me if I had a Bible, and I said "Well no, but I have read it several times".

They also didn't mention Dateline, and I decided not to bring it up this time since the visit went well. Maybe I should have I guess. Don't know if they saw it or not, but I really should talk to them about it. Any suggestions on how to bring it up without getting into a big fight?

    Mike!

Ask them if there have been any talks or articles in response to the Dateline show - tell them you'd like to keep an open mind about it and would like to hear the "other side". That way you're not putting them on the defensive, but opening the door for them to discuss it with you.

Also - I wouldn't focus on the Dateline thing right away. It sounds like you had a nice visit - the most important thing is to rebuild ties with your parents first. If your relationship is in the "mending" phase it may not be the right time to bring up Dateline at all - but don't despair, there will be plenty of issues down the road regarding the JW's that you could discuss when the time is right.

Take a less on from me. There are times that I have been so focused on proving the JW's wrong to someone that I have forgotten the whole reason I started - to gain back my relationship with them. It sometimes takes a lot more patience than I have!!!

Well, Bendrr, look at it like this. Now you've got plenty of rolling paper.

Frankly, I like the paper in the old Make Sure book. I've been rolling with that now for over 20 years. And I'm only down to the "M" section. I think my last doob was rolled with "Mary" or "Mariolitry" or something like that.

Finally moved back to Decatur about three weeks ago. And am I loving it. Savannah is toxic to me.

Brendrr, why bring up the dateline program? If your folks are making an effort to get on with you, why spoil it? What you have going with your parents right now, might be as good as it gets! Besides, they will eventually raise the subject of The Troof with you and then you can let have it with both barrels!
