Hi Frenchy
It was a rhetorical statement - sorry if it appeared otherwise.
Russell is a man without any credibility
Self styled prophets of God never stand up to close scrutiny. Russell (and he was by no means unique) set standards for others, he never kept himself. At some point, the halo's of self styled prophets, tend to drop down and strangle them.
Did not his wife divorce him for "his conceit, egotism, domination and improper conduct (adultery) with other women". He sued the Brooklyn Daily Eagle for liable, when the paper exposed his fraudulent attempts to sell ordinary wheat as "miracle wheat" to farmers at an extortionate price. Russell lost the case, the US authorties ordering him to return the money to the farmers. The expression "con man" comes to mind. Did he not lie under oath in court (a liable action he lost against Rev Ross) about his knowledge of Greek and Hebrew. Only when he was handed a copy of a Greek New Testament in court, did he concede that he new nothing of the Biblical languages. Factually, he perjured himself.
Now that's before we get to all of his failed prophecies. It is my view, that Russell took much from his involvement in Adventism. The SDA William Miller, had previously predicted the Second coming of Christ would be on 21/3/1843. when it failed, he changed the date to 21/3/1844, when that again failed, the Adventist Hiram Edson, claimed it had been "divinely revealed" to him that 21/3/1844 was correct, and that Christ had returned invisibly. Does the thread of this sound familiar. Make a wild claim, when quetioned for proof, claim it happend invisibly - Hmm
That's the short version.
I repeat, Russell is without credibility.
Hope all is well with you.
