Jehovah's witnesses make frequent claims that they model themselves on the early, 1st Century Christians.

If that is the case, why did the early Christians not refer to themselves as "Jehovah's visible organisation"?

Also, why did the early Christians not refer to themselves as the Governing Body, and as such, part of the Faithful & Discrete Slave?

I can't seem to find any reference to these "classes" of people in my Bible, all I can find is a parable about a slave. Can someone please show me where I am going wrong? I have asked this question so many times on various pro-JW boards, but no-one seems to have an answer.

This lack of response surprises me. I would have assumed that anyone who accepts this Governing Body as the Real Mc Coy, would at least have made sure that their track record was impeccable before adjusting their whole life to their teachings.

Maybe I'm overly-simplistic, but we have 3 cases here that I can't find any Scriptural referance to. That's the GB, the FDS and the VO, BTW.

Englishman: I'm surprised no one was able to answer you on those boards, at least on the FDS term... I would think that they would jump to point out that none of the 144000 had consummated their heavenly reward just yet, the number was still being filled, and so every Christian would have been a member of the FDS at that time, therefore no need to distinguish one class from another...

And the GB: didn't they have a body in Jerusalem that decided important questions? Or at least have the apostles & whoever else travel there as needed to decide these things? I seem to remember something like that.

With the VO, you're on your own; I guess they just weren't as full of themselves back then ;)

It doesn't seem like the sort of issue that would shock a JW out of their stupor, though... seems like they could easily attribute different terms, classifications, & whatnot as "new light" and move on with their lives...
