Yes and no.
It depends if there is some person with a germ phobia in the congregation. Obviously, Bethelites don't have pets nor do COs and DOs. So we can see what their viewpoint is when the write the WT and Awake articles.
Pet ownership by JWS is treated like anything else that can take time away from the ministry. Balance, balance, balance.
Of course, I'm sure a few here have had a bad experience with someone poking their nose into their personal business. If the WTS can tell people not to have children and not to get married because the end is near, I'm sure pets make the list too of things to avoid.
Most JWs just ignore it and do what they want.
There was some *information* from on high to the tune of discouraging pet ownership about six years back. My dad told me about it. I can't remember what the angle was now. My dad told me that the segment had gone down like a lead balloon with the elder that lived near him, because this guy is quite potty about his dog.
I think the Society decided to give up pushing this ideal. They have to be careful that they don't take away every pleasure in a miserable dubs life.
About 4 - 5 yrs ago there was an Awake article about pets. The implication was that studies show that most people who have pets have a tendancy to be more compassionate as a result. The only reason why I remember this is because I was allowed to have a kitten because I stressed the article to my ex who is not a cat person. He relented ONLY because of the article and only because I said it would benefit the children.
If the society said to pick your nose and eat he would...so for once I got something I wanted that wasn't considered worldly... sheesh!!

In the 4 years I have worked as a Vet Tech we have never had any JW clients, not to my knowledge or Doc's anyway. We are nosey about those kinds of things We don't do a whole lot of blood transfusions and I don't think JW's allow them for their pets either but I could be wrong.

thank you very much!!! (like always! )
In one of the congregations I use to go to, we were encouraged to feed our pets with food that did not have by-products in it. I never ran into any anti-pet ownership remarks.
I wouldn't be without my pets. They are my best friends in the entire world, and will continue to be. I've two cats and two dogs.
Islam prohibits having dogs as pets. Cats are ok - but dogs and pigs are considered 'dirty'. Personally I think the prophet Mohammed had a quirk about it all. I am friends with a Muslim family, but they cannot visit my home due to my pets. I respect their beliefs, but find this particular one absolutely rediculas.
