    Hello,

    Did you remember this ONE?

    ** yb91 166 Sweden-1991 Yearbook Report ***

In the early 1970’s, a governmental committee was appointed to

review the handling of conscientious objectors. For the sake of uniformity,

the authorities wanted Jehovah’s Witnesses to serve on terms similar

to those for other religious groups and do compulsory work as a substitute.

Representatives of the branch office appeared before the committee,

explaining that the Witnesses could not accept any substitute for

military service whatsoever, no matter how praiseworthy the task.

Back in the old days there was a loop hole that few knew about. You were not allowed to ask for alternate service, but if a judge sentenced you to it, you were allowed to accept. This only happened to one person I know of, my brother in law. He started out cleaning floors in a hospital and worked his way up into financial management. He has worked in hospital administration most of his life and is near retirement. So, his "sentence" worked out pretty well for him.

Only problem is, he and my sister never made retirement plans, because the "end is so near", so I'm afraid they are going to be in dire straits in a few years.

Excellent quote but keep this point in mind

    *** wt 05/00 9-10 Firmly Uphold Godly Teaching ***
    Enemies of the Truth

"a few individuals have left our ranks, and some among them are bent on defaming Jehovah's Witnesses by spreading lies and misinformation."

Would quoting the 91 yr book word for word qualify AS MISINFORMATION about jw telling a lie about Alternative service????????

Yes the wt accuses apostates of spreading misinformation about them

Yet all of the most vocal "Apoststes" document and post the exact ref for what they say

    How sad

states that there was a loop hole

i'm glad you pointed it out

one morning at the bethel table "GB" Barry

explained to us how the young men in Korea were so loyal

they would be called up and get 3 yrs
    called up 3 more
    called up 3 more

he told us that some brothers served 12 yrs

from 18 till they were 30 all in jail for no reason other than some GBs could not get enough votes to overturn the "POLICY"

HOW SAD TO LITERALY PLAY WITH FOLKS LIVES

    JT,

The one case I mentioned was probably a rare, local exception, because I have never heard of it before or since.

    hey larc,

I'm from Indpls., IN originally. Started studying 1968 - VietNam War time. Knew a lot of young brothers - they had to be assigned/sentenced to work non-military work by a judge or go to jail.

One young man was new in the org., didn't understand. He accepted a job in a hospital - he was df'd. Another was assigned/sentenced same hospital - was thought highly of.

Brothers with no spirituality were pioneering left and right - get that minister's statement.

Knew quite a few brothers who were assigned, or sentenced, by a judge. That was the only way to stay in the org. if you were called up for the draft.

i too had a friend who got the shaft in behalf of wt rules only to find out that wt blamed him for going to jail

today he is an emotionally broke man

it is hard many times when you see guys like Friend not get the connection between:

being directed by god on matters that deal with folks lives and
merely Human reasoning that is masquaraded around like FOOD FROM GOD HIMSELF

you go to feel sorry for a Blind and Deaf man

    JT,

You, I, now Focus and many others are appaled at the lack of insight of people like Friend and Xandit who spout legal Bull, and do not understand the unwritten rules of conduct, the subtle and not so subtle pressure of an organizational machine that has ground up human lives as the machine protects itself at all costs. Why they can't see what is so patently obvious to everyone else here is beyond my comprehension.

They are good PR men for the machine, but they are in the wrong place here to try to "Advertise, Advertise, Advertise"
